Chinese herbal decoction is a traditional solution of Chinese medicinal materials. The quality of the decoction is directly related to the clinical treatment effect. Danggui Liuhuang Decoction is composed of 6 grams each of Chuanxiong, Shengdihuang, Bupleurum, Phellodendron, Scutellaria, and Rehmannia glutinosa, and 12 grams of Scutellaria. It is a prescription commonly used in clinical medicine to treat night sweats, and is mainly used to treat night sweats caused by yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire. Night sweats are a symptom in which you sweat when you fall asleep at night and stop sweating when you wake up.

Danggui Liuhuang Decoction Taboo

This prescription is very effective in nourishing yin and removing fire. It can be used for those with yin deficiency, excessive fire, and intact kidney qi. It is not suitable for people with weak spleen and stomach, decreased appetite and loose stools.

Danggui Liuhuang Decoction

Prescription song: Chuanxiong, six rhubarbs, two raw Rehmannia roots, Scutellaria baicalensis, Astragalus membranaceus and Platycodon grandiflorum are decocted together. It can replenish Yin, dispel fire and consolidate the exterior, and is effective for night sweats caused by Yin deficiency and hyperactivity of fire.

Meaning of the prescription: This syndrome is mostly caused by Yin deficiency and excessive fire. The treatment is mainly to replenish Yin and eliminate fire, invigorate Qi and suppress sweat. Insufficient kidney yang cannot cause internal fire. The virtual heat is hidden in the yin, which promotes the latent fire in the yin, drives the yin fluid to collapse and causes night sweats. The virtual fire rises, so the face becomes red and the heart is upset. The fire consumes the yin fluid, which causes dry mouth, dry tongue and lips. A red tongue with a thin coating and a rapid pulse are all signs of internal fire.

Ju Rui Chuanxiong replenishes Qi, nourishes blood and increases fluid. When the blood is sufficient, the internal fire can be controlled; Shengdi and Shudidi enter the kidneys and nourish the insufficient kidney yang. The three medicines are used together to replenish the yin blood so that water can control fire, and they are all the main medicines. Night sweats are caused by water not liking fire, which causes steaming and fumigation, so I use Scutellaria baicalensis to clear the internal fire, and combine it with Bupleurum chinense and Phellodendron chinense to dispel fire to relieve restlessness, clear away heat and detoxify to strengthen yin. When the ruler and the minister complement each other, heat will be cleared so that fire will not be disturbed internally, and yin will be strong so that sweat will not leak out. Excessive sweating will cause the Wei to be weak and not solid, so Scutellaria baicalensis is used twice as an adjuvant, one to nourish the blood and strengthen the Wei to replenish Qi, the other to consolidate the Yin. It can also be combined with Chuanxiong and Rehmannia glutinosa to replenish Qi and blood. All the medicines are used together to replenish Yin, eliminate fire, strengthen Qi and suppress sweating.
