How to treat children's bloating

How to treat children's bloating

Children have weak spleen and stomach functions. If they eat too fast or if difficult-to-digest food enters the stomach, they will experience abdominal distension, vomiting, etc. Parents can keep some stomach-strengthening and digestion-promoting drugs at home to help their children digest, or they can exercise after eating to increase gastric acid secretion and enhance the digestive capacity of the spleen and stomach. When a child has a bloated stomach, parents can help intestinal movement by rubbing the stomach.

What is abdominal distension in children

What is abdominal distension in children? Abdominal distension in children is the swelling of the abdomen, which can be caused by gas or fluid accumulation in the intestinal or abdominal cavity, a huge tumor in the abdomen, or weak abdominal muscles. Among them, gas distension is the most common cause of abdominal distension in children. When a child has a bloated abdomen, gently tapping his stomach will produce a "dong dong" sound.

Generally speaking, a child's belly is bigger than an adult's and looks bulging. This is because a child's abdominal wall muscles are not yet fully developed, yet they have to accommodate the same number of internal organs as an adult. In addition, when a child begins to learn to walk, his spine leans forward when he stands, so his belly appears bulging.

The main causes of abdominal distension in children are as follows:

1. Swallowing too much air. When a child is bottle-fed, if he sucks too quickly, he may inhale too much air. If the nipple hole of the bottle is not of the appropriate size or the bottle is tilted, air may be inhaled into the child's stomach through the gap in the nipple. Excessive crying by the child may also lead to abdominal distension.

2. Indigestion. The accumulation of feces in children's intestines causes the proliferation of gas-producing bad bacteria, or milk protein allergy, lactose intolerance, enteritis, etc., which lead to poor digestion and absorption, produce a large amount of gas, and thus cause abdominal distension.

3. Gastrointestinal motility disorders. It is divided into purely functional intestinal obstruction, which is called "pseudo-intestinal obstruction", and congenital megacolon, which is a true lack of ganglia in the gastrointestinal tract. These problems vary in severity from chronic constipation and bloating to severe nausea and vomiting and can be temporary or lifelong.
