Does tuberculosis cause chest pain?

What is tuberculosis?

Pulmonary tuberculosis, commonly known as "pulmonary tuberculosis", is an infectious lung disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). Mycobacterium tuberculosis can invade various organs in the human body, but mainly invade the lungs, which is called pulmonary tuberculosis.

What are the symptoms of tuberculosis?

The clinical manifestations of pulmonary tuberculosis vary. The following symptoms may occur: (1) Systemic symptoms: such as fever, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, insomnia, irregular menstruation or even amenorrhea. Among them, fever is the most common. Most of them are low-grade fever, with the body temperature below 38 degrees. Generally, the body temperature will return to normal in the early morning of the next day. Some patients, especially those in the early stages of tuberculosis, do not even have any symptoms.

(2) Cough and sputum: The cough of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis is mainly dry cough, or coughing up a small amount of white mucus sputum. If the lungs are infected with bacteria, the sputum will be yellow and purulent. If you have a cough for three weeks or more and your sputum contains blood, you should highly suspect tuberculosis. (3) Hemoptysis: Hemoptysis refers to bleeding in the trachea, bronchi and lung parenchyma, with blood coughing out of the mouth. The amount of hemoptysis in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis is generally small, and the sputum contains blood. (4) Chest pain: This is usually persistent and fixed in location. It feels like there are needles pricking the lungs, and the pain worsens with coughing and breathing. (5) Dyspnea: manifested as rapid breathing and labored breathing, which is more obvious after physical activity.

What types of tuberculosis are there?

(1) Primary pulmonary tuberculosis Primary pulmonary tuberculosis is caused by the first infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis directly infects the lungs through the respiratory tract and is more common in children and adolescents. (2) Hematogenously disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis Hematogenously disseminated pulmonary tuberculosis is caused by tuberculosis bacteria entering the blood and infecting the lungs through the blood. This disease is more common in children, but can also occur in adults. (3) Secondary pulmonary tuberculosis is mostly caused by the massive reproduction of tuberculosis bacteria from the initial infection when the body's resistance is reduced. This is the main type of pulmonary tuberculosis, which mostly occurs in adults, lasts for a long time and is prone to relapse.

What symptoms may indicate tuberculosis?

The following situations should alert the possibility of pulmonary tuberculosis: (1) recurrent cough and sputum: lasting for more than 3 weeks and ineffective after ordinary anti-infection treatment; (2) blood in sputum or hemoptysis; (3) long-term low-grade fever (between 37.3℃ and 38℃);

(4) People who are susceptible to tuberculosis develop joint pain and skin erythema (people with low immunity or existing lung diseases are susceptible to tuberculosis); (5) Close contacts of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis.
