Because the main cause of hepatic adenoma is female oral contraceptives, and in modern society more and more women use oral contraceptives for contraception, this has also led to hepatic adenoma becoming more and more common, but hepatic adenoma is generally a benign tumor. Is hepatic adenoma a serious disease?

Clinically, benign liver tumors are less common than malignant tumors, accounting for 10% to 14% of liver tumors, and some types are very rare. In recent years, with the continuous advancement and popularization of imaging technology and the development of liver pathology technology, the detection rate of benign liver tumors has gradually increased.

Liver tumors can be divided into benign and malignant. Benign tumors are more common in hepatic hemangioma, hepatic adenoma, liver abscess, liver cyst, etc., while malignant tumors are more common in primary or metastatic liver cancer.

Benign tumors

1. Hemangioma is an abnormal blood vessel growth in the liver that begins in the fetus. Among people with normal physical condition, more than 10% may have hemangioma in the liver. Most people with hemangiomas have no symptoms and do not require treatment. However, in rare cases, hemangiomas may grow rapidly and be painful, in which case surgical removal may be considered.

2 . Most hepatic adenomas cause no symptoms and require no treatment. However, if the tumor is large, it may cause pain or blood loss, in which case the tumor needs to be removed. Hepatic adenomas are more common in women. In some cases, birth control pills or pregnancy may be the triggering cause.

3. Localized nodular hyperplasia of the liver refers to the growth of exponential cells similar to tumors. Although benign, nodular tumors are not easy to distinguish from liver cancer.

Malignant tumors

There are two types of liver cancer: primary liver cancer and metastatic liver cancer. When we talk about liver cancer in our daily life, we are mostly referring to primary liver cancer. Primary liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors clinically. According to the latest statistics, there are approximately 600,000 new cases of liver cancer worldwide each year, ranking fifth among malignant tumors.

If you find something growing on your liver, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for diagnosis as soon as possible. If ultrasound (B-ultrasound) examination finds a mass larger than 2 cm in the liver, further examination is needed. It is particularly emphasized that CT examination must be plain scan + enhanced, which is of great significance for establishing the diagnosis.
