How should hepatic hemangioma be treated?

Liver hemangioma is a common organ disease in the human body. It is generally a symptom caused by tumors in the blood vessels of the liver. It can easily lead to liver dysfunction or affect the normal blood supply to the liver, causing some liver complications. Liver hemangioma needs to be treated by surgery or radio frequency therapy.

What is the treatment for hemangiomas of the liver?

treat

1. Surgical treatment

Currently, the main treatments for hepatic hemangioma include hemangioma resection, hemangioma suture ligation, hepatic artery ligation, microwave solidification, radiofrequency therapy, hepatic artery embolization, etc. Liver transplantation can also be used to treat diffuse hepatic hemangiomas or giant hemangiomas that cannot be removed, such as those with liver decompensation or combined with Kasabach-Merritt syndrome.

2. Non-surgical treatment

(1) Hepatic artery embolization (TAE) TAE is used to treat hepatic hemangioma because hepatic hemangioma is mainly supplied by the hepatic artery. After embolization of the artery, a thrombus may form in the tumor. The thrombus may become organized and fibrotic, causing the tumor to form a fibroma-like structure, thereby achieving the purpose of shrinking and hardening the hemangioma.

(2) Microwave solidification and radiofrequency treatment of hepatic hemangioma. Microwaves can be converted into heat energy to coagulate the surrounding tissues, causing the tumor to shrink and harden locally, thereby achieving the purpose of solidifying the tumor.

Hepatic hemangioma is a benign tumor. Just like there are many hemangiomas on the body surface, the liver is one of the internal organs that is prone to hemangiomas. Most hepatic hemangiomas have no symptoms and are often discovered occasionally during physical examinations such as ultrasound examinations. What should be done if a hemangioma is found in the liver?

When giving you advice, the doctor often needs to clarify the following basic points: ① Whether there are symptoms, such as dull pain, fullness, pressure, and other discomforts in the upper abdomen; ② How big the tumor is; ③ The growth rate; ④ Whether there is hepatitis B, or big three Yang or Yang.

If you have clear symptoms, your doctor will recommend treatment.

If the tumor is larger than 5 cm and is still growing, your doctor will recommend treatment. If the tumor is smaller than 5 cm, regular check-ups are recommended. Generally, it is sufficient to have an ultrasound examination once a year.

If the tumor grows quickly, for example, it was 1 cm six months ago and is now 3 cm, and it is predicted that it will soon exceed 5 cm, the doctor will also recommend that you receive treatment.

If you have hepatitis B, or positive for Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C, your doctor will tend to recommend that you receive treatment. Because small hemangiomas are sometimes difficult to distinguish from liver cancer.

There is currently no drug that can treat liver hemangioma. The main methods of treating it are as follows:

①Surgical resection: tumor larger than 10 cm.

Vascular interventional therapy: Enter the site of liver hemangioma through a microcatheter and inject embolic agents to cause it to shrink and disappear. This method can be used for hemangiomas smaller than 10 cm or multiple hemangiomas.

Radiofrequency ablation treatment: A radiofrequency needle is inserted into the liver hemangioma to perform ablation, causing it to melt away. This method can be used for hemangiomas smaller than 5cm.
