More eye mucus in summer

This is very troublesome and may even affect the patient's normal life.

Adhesion of the upper and lower eyelids in the morning: Conjunctivitis is usually the first symptom of Reiter syndrome. The symptoms are generally mild and often accompanied by a slight burning sensation. Adhesion of the upper and lower eyelids in the morning is mostly bilateral.

Pseudohypopyon: Hypopyon caused by intraocular tumor is also called pseudohypopyon. Because its clinical manifestations are similar to endophthalmitis, it is also called camouflage syndrome.

Corneal foreign body: It is a common eye injury, especially in arid, windy and sandy areas and heavy industrial areas. Improper treatment can cause corneal infection of varying degrees, or even serious complications such as blindness, affecting the patient's normal work and life.

Conjunctival hyperemia reveals yellow pus: the inflamed meibomian glands are surrounded by firm tarsal tissue. Yellow pus is often faintly visible on the surface of the congested palpebral conjunctiva, and may break through and discharge pus into the conjunctival sac on its own. Conjunctival hyperemia and yellow pus are one of the clinical manifestations of stye.

Depending on the viscosity, color and other properties of the secretions, they can be divided into watery, viscous, mucopurulent, purulent, bloody secretions, etc. Secretions of different natures can help us preliminarily determine the approximate nature of eye diseases so that we can take appropriate treatment measures.

Watery secretions: It is a thin, slightly viscous watery liquid. Increased secretions often indicate viral keratoconjunctivitis, early tear duct obstruction, foreign bodies on the ocular surface, minor trauma, etc. Since the bridge of the nose in children is not fully developed, some children may have epicanthus and inverted eyelashes, which often cause eye irritation symptoms and increased watery secretions. If the eyelid position of the elderly is abnormal, such as entropion or ectropion, it will also cause an increase in watery secretions.

Viscous secretions: often occur in patients with dry eyes and acute allergic conjunctivitis, often appearing as sticky white filamentous substances, which are very similar to the properties of commonly used glue. Patients may also have symptoms such as foreign body sensation and itchy eyes. Especially for children with allergic conjunctivitis, when they wake up in the morning, they often say that they can pull out threads from their eyes, which are often sticky secretions.

Mucopurulent secretion: It is a relatively viscous, slightly yellowish substance. If this type of secretion increases, the possibility of chronic allergic conjunctivitis and trachoma should be considered.
