My ankle has been sprained for two months and it hasn't healed yet.

There are many tendons and soft tissues around the ankle joint. If people are not careful while walking, it is easy to cause ankle sprain. When you sprain your ankle, you should pay attention to rest so that the ankle sprain will heal more easily. Generally, people with ankle sprains can recover in about a month and can walk normally at this time. However, some people have not recovered from ankle sprains for two months. What's going on?

Ankle sprain is a condition that many people are prone to when doing strenuous exercise or not paying attention. Generally speaking, an ankle sprain will not cause great harm to the injured person, but will only cause a certain inconvenience in their movements. The most prominent symptom after a sprained foot is pain and swelling at the sprained site. If not treated in time, the swelling will worsen. Therefore, reducing swelling after a sprained foot becomes a skill that the injured person needs to master on a daily basis. Why is the elderly man’s sprained foot still swollen two months later? Let’s take a look at what to do if the elderly sprain their foot.

Because of soft tissue injury and rupture of capillaries, blood circulation in the sprained area is blocked and blood accumulates in the sprained area. This is why the foot becomes dark purple and swollen after spraining. In your case, you can now do hot compress treatment, with a hot towel or hot water bottle for external application; take appropriate oral blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs, such as Duyiwei Capsules, Shangke Qiwei Tablets, etc.; pay attention to rest recently, try to raise your feet when resting, move your toes more, and promote blood circulation.

Treatment of sprains

Step 1: Rest

Resting soon after an injury can promote faster recovery, reduce pain, bleeding or swelling, and prevent the injury from getting worse.

Step 2: Cold compress

After resting for 15-20 minutes, apply cold compress for 15-20 minutes, then remove the ice and rest for 5 minutes before applying again. It can constrict blood vessels, reducing swelling, pain and cramping. When applying cold compress, the skin's sensation goes through four stages: cold → pain → burning → numbness. When it becomes numb, you can stop the cold compress. Do not stop applying cold compress too early and switch to hot compress. Use cold compress at least 3-4 times a day within two days after the injury. For more serious injuries, it is recommended to consider using hot compress after using cold compress for 3 days and the swelling has significantly subsided.

Step 3: Pressurization

First cover the wound with a clean dressing, and then apply pressure to the affected area with your hands, bandages, etc. to slow down the worsening of the injury. When bandaging, start from a few inches below the wound and work your way up, overlapping in a spiral shape by about half, and gradually wrap evenly with a little pressure. However, keep it loose when passing over the wound to ensure smooth blood circulation to the injured limb. Observe the color of the exposed toes or fingers. If there are symptoms such as pain, skin discoloration, numbness, tingling, etc., it means that the wrap is too tight and the heavy wrap should be unwrapped.

Elderly people with sprained feet usually recover within a month. If it takes a long time, it is recommended to go to the hospital for treatment.
