Milia in babies

Milia in babies

When their baby is born, parents should pay attention to some medical conditions of the baby while being happy. Because the skin barrier and immunity of newborn babies are in a fragile state, they may get sick if they are not careful. If a parent finds some white spots growing near the tip of his baby's nose, it is very likely caused by corn rash. So what causes miliaria in babies?

After the baby is born, parents will happily watch the baby day and night and often find some difficult to understand phenomena, but many of these phenomena are normal and often do not require special treatment.

Physiological jaundice: 2-3 days after birth, 90% of babies will have slightly yellow skin and sclera. Under normal circumstances, it will disappear on its own within 7-10 days, but for premature babies, it may be delayed until the 3rd-4th week. During this period, the baby is generally in good condition and has no other symptoms. This is called physiological jaundice.

Physiological weight loss: The baby's weight will decrease by 4%-7% within 3-5 days after birth. It is a normal physiological phenomenon as long as it does not exceed 10%. The main reason is that the baby needs to excrete meconium and urinate after birth, and some water will be lost through lung breathing and skin evaporation at the beginning. In addition, the newborn baby has a small appetite and the mother's substance secretion is insufficient. These factors combined will cause the child to temporarily lose weight. Of course, if weight loss is excessive and lasts for too long, feeding needs to be strengthened and attention needs to be paid.

Physiological breast enlargement: This phenomenon occurs more frequently in baby girls. A hard lump may be felt on the nipple of the baby's breast when he is 2-3 days old, and even milk-like liquid may flow out. This makes some parents nervous. Generally, it will disappear naturally in 2-3 weeks. Do not squeeze it hard to avoid local infection, which may lead to serious consequences.

Physiological false menstruation: A small number of female babies will experience swelling of the vulva and a small amount of blood in the diaper 5-7 days after birth. Please don't panic if you see this phenomenon. This is also a normal physiological phenomenon, called "false menstruation" and is related to the level of estrogen in the baby's body. It will disappear naturally after 1-3 days and no special treatment is required.

Milia in newborns: It is common on the tip of the baby's nose. It is mainly due to the obstruction of sebaceous gland secretion. It forms yellow-white dots ranging from the size of a needle tip to a millet grain. These dots may be higher than the skin surface, but there is no redness around them. Generally, no treatment is required and they will disappear naturally.

Excessive eye secretions: After the baby is born, the lower end of the nasolacrimal duct is blocked by a thin film or the nasolacrimal duct is blocked by epithelial debris, causing the tear duct to be blocked, which in turn causes the baby to secrete more tears. Generally, the nasolacrimal duct will rupture on its own in 3-4 weeks, making the nasolacrimal duct unobstructed. If your baby's eyes secrete purulent discharge, it is abnormal and you need to go to the hospital for treatment in time.
