I fell and my ribs hurt every time I move.

Although the ribs play a role in protecting the human internal organs in daily life, they are also very fragile. If hit by external force, the ribs are likely to fracture. Therefore, during daily walking or activities, everyone must pay attention to protecting their own safety. But some people accidentally fall while walking, and then find that their ribs are very painful. What's going on?

How to tell if a rib is broken.

1. Pain when pressing the chest

Chest pain is the most common symptom after a fracture. A rib fracture will stimulate nearby nerves and cause pain, which can be unbearable in severe cases. There will be obvious pain when pressing with hands, and the patient will even feel severe pain when sneezing or coughing, accompanied by symptoms such as difficulty breathing. The pain causes secretions to be retained, which aggravates the patient's breathing difficulties.

2. Partial depression of the ribs can be seen locally

Careful observation of patients with rib fractures will reveal local depression at the fracture site. When the front and back of the chest are squeezed, the patient can also feel or directly hear the sound of bone friction. Part of the chest cavity becomes soft due to the loss of rib support, which is the opposite of normal breathing and causes breathing difficulties.

3. X-ray examination

X-ray examination is the most intuitive and accurate method to determine fractures. It can clearly see the fracture point of the ribs, check for rib breakage or dislocation, and determine whether the internal organs are damaged. After X-ray confirmation, symptomatic treatment can be better obtained. Patients are generally required to undergo another X-ray examination in about a month to confirm whether there are any missed diagnoses in the early test results.

Patients with rib fractures should go to the hospital as soon as possible and receive symptomatic treatment. If there is no serious problem, you should rest in bed, eat a light diet, eat more fresh fruits, vegetables and foods high in protein to ensure adequate nutrition. At the same time, avoid smoking and drinking, and avoid eating spicy, cold, and greasy foods to promote speedy recovery of the body.
