Child's buttocks blue

Child's buttocks blue

There are many versions of the explanation for the blue color on the buttocks of newborns, and there are different explanations in different regions. Some people say that it is mainly superstition, while others, through scientific analysis, think that every child will have such a symptom. In fact, the blue color on the buttocks of children is a kind of pigmented nevus, which often occurs on the lumbar spine, chest, buttocks and limbs. It does not affect the health of the child and will automatically disappear after a few years.

Why is the newborn's butt blue?

There are many explanations for the blue color on the buttocks of newborns, such as some folk myths that mothers can just listen to. For example, "On the way to reincarnation, some people don't want to drink Meng Po soup and are spanked, leaving marks on their buttocks", "The baby is pinched by ghosts when he is born", "The baby is in a hurry to meet his mother and tries hard to break free, but the little tail on his body is caught by God, and the tail breaks when he struggles hard, so every baby has small blue marks on the buttocks."

In fact, this blue color is a type of "pigmented nevus", which often occurs on the waist, chest, back, buttocks and limbs. The color is mostly blue or blue. It does not affect the health of the baby, does not require treatment, and disappears on its own within a few years after birth.

Generally, the pigment cells of this spot begin to appear when the embryo is 4-5 months old. They are usually located on the baby's buttocks or back. They are bluish-purple round or irregular in shape. They gradually disappear within 1 or 2 years after birth. However, there are a very small number of people who still have pigment spots into adulthood.

This type of spot appears more frequently in the Mongoloid race (i.e. the yellow race), so it is also called Mongolian spot in anthropology. Because it often appears in the sacrum, it is also called sacral pigment spot. The blue birthmark is not a disease, but a residual physical characteristic of the human body. It has no effect on the baby's health and does not require any treatment or treatment. Parents do not need to worry.

Other types of newborn birthmarks

In addition to the most common "Mongolian spots", there are several other types of human birthmarks:

1. A light brown birthmark that is not higher than the skin

Because its color resembles coffee mixed with milk, it is called milk coffee birthmark. This birthmark is harmless to the human body. However, if the baby has multiple spots (usually more than 6 spots), it indicates that the child may have a rare genetic disease - neurofibromatosis.

2. Purple spots or purple red spots

This birthmark originates from blood vessels and is often seen on the head, face, and upper limbs. Although this spot sometimes shrinks, it generally does not fade throughout life.

3. "Strawberry mole"

This is a dark red, uneven growth that appears on the skin. This type of mole will gradually increase in size 6-12 months after birth, and then gradually begin to fade from the center of the mole, usually disappearing during infancy.
