What to do if bilirubin is high

What to do if bilirubin is high

If a person's liver function is damaged, it can easily lead to high bilirubin. Therefore, if you find that your bilirubin is high during a physical examination, it is recommended that you do a liver function test. Moreover, if the direct bilirubin in the blood decreases but the indirect bilirubin increases, it may be a red blood cell disease, which will cause more serious harm to the human body.

It is precisely because high bilirubin has such serious harm, so knowing what to do when bilirubin is high is the best way to solve the problem. Only by knowing how to correctly deal with high bilirubin can you ensure that the human body will not be harmed by certain diseases.

Everyone should know that there are three sources of total bilirubin: 80% to 85% comes from aging red blood cells that are broken down in the circulation, 10% to 15% comes from ineffective hematopoiesis, and 1% to 5% comes from hemoglobin-containing proteins in the liver. If the total serum bilirubin level is low, the main reason is the low number of red blood cells, which can lead to iron deficiency anemia.

Whether the total bilirubin is high or low, it will damage the health of the human body.

There are many reasons for high indirect bilirubin. You must go to a regular hospital for a detailed examination to find out the cause of the high indirect bilirubin, and then take targeted treatment. High indirect bilirubin is generally caused by two types of diseases, namely hemolytic jaundice and hepatocellular jaundice. The cause of hemolytic jaundice may be blood type incompatibility during blood transfusion, and neonatal jaundice is also a common condition. Hepatocellular jaundice is caused by damage to liver cells, resulting in impaired liver metabolism and function.

In addition to actively receiving treatment, people with high indirect bilirubin should also pay attention to their diet. Dietary considerations for patients with high indirect bilirubin: The diet should be light, such as bean products, fish, vegetables, fruits, etc., which contain a large amount of vitamins A, B, C, E, have good antioxidant function and are easy to digest and absorb. It is better to eat more seafood, mushrooms, sesame, walnuts, dates, lean meat and animal liver. Avoid drinking alcohol and eating too much sweets. It is advisable to rest in bed for 1-2 hours after a meal to ensure that the liver gets adequate blood supply, which is beneficial for liver cell repair.

This is all I have to say about what to do if your bilirubin is high. I would like to remind all my friends that if your bilirubin is high due to liver disease, you must go to a regular hospital for treatment in time to avoid the gradual deterioration of liver disease and a threat to your life. In order to prevent this from happening, it is best to drink less and smoke less. This is the best way to protect your body.
