Pituitary microadenoma

Pituitary microadenoma

Pituitary microadenoma is actually also called a pituitary tumor. This disease is a benign tumor that occurs in people's pituitary gland. When people suffer from this disease, the incidence rate in the population is generally around one in one hundred thousand. However, in recent years, the incidence rate of this pituitary microadenoma has shown an upward trend.

The occurrence of pituitary microadenoma seriously affects people's physical health, and when the disease occurs, it will cause more serious endocrine disorders. For example, infertility, weakened sexual function, changes in facial skin or fingertips, etc. In serious cases, it can even destroy the internal stability of the human body.

Sexual dysfunction refers to impotence and decreased libido. Sexual dysfunction is one of the clinical manifestations of early-stage pituitary adenoma. About 60% of pituitary tumor patients have sexual dysfunction, but the actual situation is much higher than this figure. Because our country has always been very conservative about sex, some people are often reluctant to talk about it.

The compression of normal pituitary tissue by pituitary tumors and the damage caused by radiotherapy cause hypopituitarism, which affects the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis in the human body, resulting in insufficient secretion of gonadotropin, and further leading to hypogonadism. Prolactin-type pituitary microadenoma manifests as amenorrhea, lactation, and infertility in women, and as impotence and sexual dysfunction in men. This is related to the fact that hyperprolactinemia inhibits the release of gonadotropin, reduces pituitary responsiveness and reduces testosterone production. In this case, simply supplementing with testosterone preparations will not be effective.

When pituitary microadenoma occurs, the disease will cause adrenocorticotropic hormone-type and growth hormone-type pituitary adenomas in people's bodies, leading to obesity or sexual dysfunction. Therefore, it is necessary to diagnose and treat pituitary microadenoma as soon as possible after suffering from the disease.
