Hematocrit

Hematocrit

The phenomenon of hematocrit can help people understand the increase and decrease of red blood cells in the body. When the absolute value of red blood cells increases due to different reasons, the hematocrit will actually increase accordingly. But when we encounter such a problem, how should we treat it?

After the hematocrit treatment, the blood actually undergoes a centrifugal process to separate it into two major parts, namely plasma and blood cells. If we put the blood in a very special test tube and centrifuge it at the prescribed time and speed, the final result will be that the red blood cells will be completely compacted at the bottom of the test tube.

The red blood cells are in close contact with each other and try to exclude all the plasma as much as possible. At this time, all the plasma will be squeezed onto the blood cells. At this time, the percentage of red blood cells in the whole blood is the hematocrit we want to get, that is, the volume (or percentage) occupied by the compacted red blood cells, also called the hematocrit or hematocrit. Hematocrit can also be measured using the capillary method and the blood cell counter method. Hematocrit is usually abbreviated as HCT or Ht, and the measurement unit is now mostly expressed in liters of red blood cells per liter of blood (L/L).

The measurement of hematocrit helps to understand the increase and decrease of red blood cells. When the absolute value of red blood cells increases due to various reasons, the hematocrit will also increase accordingly. When the blood is concentrated, the hematocrit can reach more than 50%. It is often used clinically to understand the degree of blood concentration in dehydrated patients as a reference for calculating the amount of fluid replacement. A decrease in hematocrit is related to various anemias. Due to the different sizes of red blood cells, the change in hematocrit is not parallel to the number of red blood cells. The number of red blood cells and hemoglobin concentration must be measured simultaneously and used to calculate the average values of red blood cells to be of reference value.

The condition of hematocrit is a pattern that affects people's physical health, so in our daily life, we suggest that everyone should be aware of and understand the phenomenon of hematocrit, so that we can discover the adverse phenomena in the body as early as possible and cure them as soon as possible. We need to be aware of this.
