Café au lait spots

Skin diseases are a very common type of disease in our lives. When it comes to skin diseases, many people will think of dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, etc. However, when it comes to the skin disease of café au lait spots, many people don’t know much about it. Café au lait spots are a hereditary skin disease. The appearance of café au lait spots has a great impact on the patient’s image. This article will introduce you to some common knowledge about café au lait spots.

Café au lait spots are light brown patches that appear at birth. The color of café au lait spots ranges from light brown to dark brown, but each spot is the same color and very uniform. The depth is not affected by sunlight. The size ranges from a few millimeters to tens of centimeters, with clear boundaries and the surface skin texture is completely normal. The microscopic manifestation is very similar to freckles, mainly manifested as an abnormal increase in the amount of melanin in the epidermis, but the number of melanocytes is normal.

Café au lait spots are most common in patients with neurofibromatosis. About 70% of patients with neurofibromatosis have café au lait spots. If there are six café au lait spots with a diameter greater than 1.5 cm, they have important diagnostic reference value. However, most patients with cafe au lait spots are not patients with neurofibromatosis. Cafe au lait spots are simply a manifestation of congenital hyperpigmentation of the epidermis. In addition, cafe au lait spots can also be seen in tuberous sclerosis and other neuroectodermal syndromes.

Since the melanocytes of cafe au lait spots are distributed in the epidermis, shorter wavelengths and smaller energy densities can destroy the epidermal melanocytes. 510nm pulse dye lasers and 532nm Q-switched frequency-doubled Nd:YAG lasers are both good choices.

That’s all I have to say about cafe au lait spots. Cafe au lait spots do have a certain impact on the patient’s image, so many people with cafe au lait spots hope to use some freckle removal products to remove them. In fact, if you want to remove cafe au lait spots with skin care products, the effect is not obvious. For specific removal methods, it is best to consult a professional hospital.
