It can reproduce in human body fluids, leucorrhea, and semen.

The main methods for treating vaginal trichomoniasis are as follows:

1. Topical medication

Those who cannot tolerate oral medications or are not suitable for systemic medications can choose vaginal local medications. The efficacy of local medications alone is not as good as systemic medications, and the effectiveness of local medications is ≤50%. For topical use, one metronidazole suppository can be used once a night for 7 consecutive days.

2. Systemic treatment

Take metronidazole (Flagyl) orally. It is important to treat sex partners simultaneously; a single-dose regimen may also be used. Metronidazole is effective and drinking alcohol is prohibited during treatment and within 24 hours after treatment. Metronidazole is carcinogenic to rodents. It also has a mutagenic effect on bacteria. It should not be used during the first 3 months of pregnancy.

3. Precautions during treatment

When the trichomoniasis test turns negative after treatment, it should be rechecked after the menstruation ends. The patient is considered cured only if the results are negative for three consecutive months.
