Functional diarrhea

Functional diarrhea

Diarrhea is a very common problem. There are many reasons for diarrhea. The most common one is improper diet. Especially in summer, diarrhea is very easy to occur. Diarrhea is very harmful to human health and gastrointestinal tract. It is necessary to treat it in time after diarrhea occurs. This will be of great help to the patient's body in all aspects. What is functional diarrhea?

Many people are not very clear about functional diarrhea. After the disease occurs, they need to have a good understanding of it so that they will know how to treat it. Moreover, this type of diarrhea can cause great harm to the human body.

Functional diarrhea:

Functional diarrhea refers to diarrhea without any bacterial or viral infection, which is generally caused by excessive gastrointestinal function (too rapid gastrointestinal movement). This disease is a disease characterized by persistent or recurrent soft or watery stools without abdominal pain. There are lumps when pressed, and the symptoms of fasting are aggravated.

Functional diarrhea is relatively difficult to identify compared with other functional bowel diseases, and medical history and physical examination are important for diagnosis. Before making a diagnosis of functional diarrhea, organic intestinal diseases must be ruled out first. Patients with functional diarrhea often have frequent and small bowel movements without abdominal pain or discomfort, but this needs to be differentiated from "pseudo-diarrhea", which is characterized by frequent bowel movements with a sense of urgency, but each time a formed stool is passed.

A physical examination will reveal anemia and malnutrition. The presence of an abdominal mass in a young patient suggests the possibility of Crohn's disease, but the presence of an abdominal mass in an elderly patient cannot rule out the diagnosis of a tumor. Rectal examination, colonoscopy and biopsy can help rule out colon adenoma, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and various nonspecific colitis. If blood tests or stool tests show abnormal findings, further testing is needed.

There is currently a lack of good research on the prognosis of functional diarrhea, which is generally believed to be a self-limiting process. A study of 17 patients showed that chronic functional diarrhea could be resolved within 7 to 31 months.

The above is an introduction to functional diarrhea. After the occurrence of such a disease, you must actively cooperate with the treatment, and if you have abdominal pain, you cannot arbitrarily choose some painkillers. This will not help improve the abdominal pain problem at all, and the wrong approach will make the problem worse.
