The anti-platelet aggregation effect of motherwort can also be proved by studying the effect of motherwort on cAMP and cGMP in platelets and the activity of prostacyclin PGI2 in arterial wall. Motherwort was extracted with alcohol and made into injection, with 2 grams of crude drug per 1 ml. The experimental results showed that the cAMP content in the platelets of mice was significantly increased (P<0.01=, and the platelet aggregation induced by ADP was significantly inhibited, with an inhibition rate of 32%. It had no effect on the activity of PGI2-like substances in the arterial wall, with an inhibition rate of 0.6%. Its mechanism of action may be that motherwort has the ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase activity or act through hormones.
