Hallux valgus

Hallux valgus

Hallux valgus deformity is a lateral deviation of the big toe at the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Hallux valgus is a complex anatomical deformity and is challenging to treat. The term bunion refers to the distinct medial protrusion that occurs in hallux valgus deformity, but the two terms are often used interchangeably.

1. 30 grams of Xungusi, 30 grams of Tougucao, 30 grams of Millettia reticulata, 10 grams of frankincense, 10 grams of myrrh, 10 grams of Sanguisorba officinalis, and 15 grams of Vaccaria segetalis.

2. 25 grams of Pueraria root, 15 grams of Gallnut, 15 grams of Licorice, and 25 grams of White Scented Safflower. Put them all into the pot and add cold water. Before decocting the Chinese medicine, it is best to soak it in cold water for about 30 minutes, because cold water can penetrate the surface of the plant, making the medicine moist and softened, and the cells swell, allowing the active ingredients to dissolve more easily in the water.

3. 40 grams of Uncaria rhynchophylla, 30 grams of Prunella vulgaris, 20 grams of mulberry leaves, and 20 grams of chrysanthemum. 4. Insomnia: 60 grams of magnetite, 20 grams of chrysanthemum, 15 grams of scutellaria baicalensis, and 30 grams of polyanthus multiflorus.

4. Conservative treatment can be performed for patients with only deformities and no symptoms or with mild symptoms. Wearing loose-fitting or open-toed shoes can reduce friction on the medial protuberance and delay further progression of hallux deviation and remaining toe deformities by reducing compression on the forefoot. Placing soft pads inside your shoes can reduce pressure on painful areas on the bottom of your foot. Use of hallux valgus pads, night splints, and intertoe pads may temporarily relieve pain and slow progression of the deformity. Bunions can be treated with physical therapy and hot compresses.

Hallux valgus is the most common lesion affecting the big toe, and is more common in middle-aged and elderly women. It most often occurs in people with a genetic predisposition and those who wear ill-fitting shoes for a long time, which puts abnormal pressure on the big toe.
