The meaning of spleen and stomach weakness is relatively general, and includes TCM syndromes such as spleen qi deficiency, spleen yang deficiency, spleen failure to regulate blood, sinking of middle qi, stomach yang deficiency, stomach qi deficiency, stomach yin deficiency, and spleen and stomach deficiency-cold. Among them, spleen deficiency is the basic type of spleen and stomach weakness. Spleen deficiency syndrome refers to the symptoms caused by insufficient spleen qi and failure of its healthy functioning. It is mostly caused by improper diet, overwork, and long-term illness that damages the spleen. The term "spleen deficiency" comes from the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine. For example, in the Lingshu Tiannian chapter, there is a statement that "at the age of seventy, the spleen is deficient and the skin is dry." Subsequently, successive doctors conducted in-depth research and development on spleen qi deficiency syndrome, pointing out that the spleen is responsible for transportation and transformation, is the source of qi and blood production, and is the foundation of acquired constitution. If one is born with deficiencies in endowment, or has a weak spleen and stomach; or if one fails to take care of oneself after birth, or if one has an irregular diet, irregular hunger and satiety, or if one is overworked, or if one is worried for a long time and damages the spleen and stomach; or if one is old and frail, or has a serious illness, and after a long illness, the vitality has not recovered, and one fails to take care of oneself, all these can lead to spleen deficiency and dysfunction of the transport and transformation functions, resulting in a lack of qi and blood production, and the formation of spleen deficiency syndrome.

Improper diet, overwork, long-term worry, insufficient endowment, old age and physical frailty, recovery from a serious illness, and improper nursing care can all lead to weak spleen and stomach syndrome. "Treatise on the Causes and Symptoms of Various Diseases·Symptoms of Diseases of the Five Internal Organs·Symptoms of Diseases of the Spleen": "When the spleen is strong, the body is in excess and the patient will suffer from abdominal distension, difficulty urinating, heaviness of the body and hunger, and paralysis of the feet... This is the excess of spleen qi, and it should be purged. When the spleen qi is insufficient, the limbs will be useless, there will be diarrhea, undigested food and vomiting, and abdominal distension and intestinal rumbling. This is the deficiency of spleen qi." Therefore, there are three causes of the disease: one is eating disorders; two is overwork; three is due to acute and chronic diseases. The above factors damage the spleen and stomach, leading to spleen and stomach insufficiency, impaired transportation and transformation, and the formation of spleen and stomach deficiency syndrome.

(1) Maintain a cheerful spirit and avoid mental trauma caused by excessive fatigue, worry, sadness, fear, tension and other factors.

(2) Use your brain less before meals, concentrate on eating, take a short rest after meals, and develop good living habits.

(3) Keep warm, especially your abdomen. Wear a cotton bellyband on your abdomen if necessary. You should not sleep outdoors in the summer to cool off.

(4) Exercise to strengthen your body by appropriately practicing internal qigong, health exercises, and Tai Chi.
