How to treat hay fever

How to treat hay fever

Hay fever is a symptom in which some people with pollen allergies suffer various allergic reactions after coming into contact with pollen. Because the symptoms occur suddenly and are very obvious, they can cause great harm to the patient's health. Mild cases may show redness and swelling of the skin, while severe patients may have asthma symptoms such as coughing. For this reason, the prevention and treatment of hay fever has become the most concerned issue for people who are prone to allergies.

So, how should hay fever be treated? In fact, based on the current medical level, the treatment of hay fever is still effective to a certain extent, but the most important thing is that people with allergies need to pay attention to taking corresponding protective measures in their daily lives.

Hay fever belongs to the type I allergy classification of Gale and Coombs. Pollen antigens act on people with allergic constitutions, sensitizing them and causing them to produce corresponding pollen antibodies. This antibody is immunoglobulin E (Ig-E), which attaches to mast cells. When it comes into contact with the same pollen antigen again, an antigen-antibody reaction occurs on the mast cells. Through a series of processes, various mediators such as histamine are released, leading to mucosal edema, intravascular fluid exudation, increased secretions, local irritation and smooth muscle contraction. The main clinical manifestations are nasal itching, continuous sneezing, large amounts of clear nasal discharge, nasal congestion, etc.; some patients may also experience eye itching, tearing, conjunctival congestion, asthma, etc.

Allergy medicine, antihistamine

If we consider the efficacy, hormones do have a very strong function of improving symptoms. They are often used not only for hay fever, but also for atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, and rheumatism. However, on the other side of their effectiveness, the side effects are also very strong. After long-term use, various abnormal phenomena will occur, and even diseases more serious than hay fever may occur.

Desensitization therapy

By injecting the antigen extract to which you are allergic into your body, the symptoms of the immune response will be alleviated through the body's immunity to pollen. This requires long-term treatment and is generally recommended for patients who are allergic to dust and suffer from allergies all year round.

Controlling symptoms by using eye drops or taking medicine does not mean that hay fever has been cured. However, only by persisting in diagnosis and treatment, allergic reactions will gradually become less likely to occur and the symptoms will be alleviated. It is very important to follow the doctor's instructions and receive treatment.

The above are the three most common methods of treating hay fever in clinical practice. It is not difficult to see from the above that although some medications can achieve corresponding therapeutic effects after the symptoms of hay fever appear, the disease cannot be cured. Therefore, for patients with hay fever, it is very necessary to do a good job of preventing hay fever in daily life.
