Can Traditional Chinese Medicine Cure Vertigo?

2. Phlegm-blocking type of vertigo:

To treat this type of vertigo, it is advisable to eliminate phlegm and dampness, and Pinellia, Atractylodes and Gastrodia Decoction can be used. The prescription consists of: Pinellia, Atractylodes, Gastrodia, Tangerine Peel, Poria, Licorice, Ginger, and Jujube. Take one dose daily, decocted in water. If the patient has symptoms of phlegm turning into heat, such as headache, bitter taste in the mouth, irritability, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and rapid pulse, drugs for clearing heat and resolving phlegm should be used. Wen Dan Tang (Pinellia, Tangerine Peel, Poria, Citrus Aurantii, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Ginger, Jujube, Licorice) plus Coptis Chinensis and Scutellaria Baicalensis can be used. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

3. Vertigo due to Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity:

To treat this type of vertigo, it is advisable to nourish yin and calm the liver. Qiju Dihuang Pills can be used with modifications. The prescription consists of: Rehmannia glutinosa, Cornus officinalis, Chinese yam, Alisma orientalis, Cortex moutan, Poria cocos, Lycium barbarum, Chrysanthemum, and White Peony Root. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

4. Dizziness caused by deficiency of blood in the heart and spleen:

To treat this type of vertigo, it is advisable to replenish qi and blood, and benefit the heart and spleen. Guipi Pills can be used, 9 grams each time, twice a day. The prescription consists of: Atractylodes macrocephala, Poria cocos, Astragalus membranaceus, ginseng, roasted licorice, costusroot, angelica sinensis, Polygala tenuifolia, longan pulp, Ziziphus jujuba seed, ginger, and jujube.

5. Dizziness caused by insufficient qi:

To treat this type of vertigo, it is advisable to tonify the middle and replenish qi. Buzhong Yiqi Decoction can be used with modifications. The prescription consists of: Astragalus, ginseng, licorice, Atractylodes, Angelica, tangerine peel, Cimicifuga, and Bupleurum. Take one dose daily, decocted in water.

6. Dizziness due to deficiency of kidney essence: To treat this type of dizziness, it is advisable to nourish the kidney and replenish essence. Zuogui Pills can be used, 9 grams each time, twice a day. The prescription consists of: Rehmannia root, yam, wolfberry, cornus officinalis, Achyranthes bidentata, Cuscuta australis, deer antler glue and tortoise shell glue. If the patient has symptoms of kidney yang deficiency, such as cold body and limbs, clear and long urination, pale tongue, and weak pulse, Zuogui Pills with aconite, cinnamon, angelica, and eucommia can be used.
