How to prevent gastritis?

Many people think that gastritis cannot be cured. In fact, stomach diseases can be clinically cured, that is, the symptoms can be eliminated.

As long as you pay attention to your diet, mental conditioning and rest, you can reduce or avoid recurrence. Otherwise, even if the symptoms are temporarily eliminated, they may be triggered and aggravated by spicy diet, bad mood or excessive fatigue. Many people do not realize this and think that recurrent gastritis cannot be cured. In fact, only chronic gastritis that has not been treated for a long time or has been improperly treated for a long time is difficult to cure.

Don't take gastritis seriously. Some middle-aged people have irregular eating habits and drink a lot of alcohol all year round due to work requirements, which not only causes them to suffer from fatty liver but also stomach problems. Even if warned by doctors, they are subjectively unwilling or objectively unable to quit drinking. In addition, the symptoms are relatively mild and people themselves do not take them seriously. As a result, many people slowly delay treatment and their condition gradually worsens, eventually developing into atrophic gastritis. Some people even develop gastric cancer and their lives are directly threatened.

Preventing the occurrence of chronic gastritis is more important than treating it. The following principles should be followed:

1. Do not overeat. Abnormal hunger and satiety, excessive consumption of spicy food, excessive drinking of strong liquor, and avoidance of raw and cold food may cause heat accumulation in the stomach, damage the stomach yin and induce stomach problems.

2. Maintain a good mental state. Worry, anger and bad emotions can cause liver qi stagnation. When Qi is stagnant for a long time, it turns into fire, which burns the stomach yin, refines the body fluids and causes stomach problems. Moreover, depression or excessive tension and fatigue can easily cause pyloric sphincter dysfunction, bile reflux and chronic gastritis.

3. Strengthen physical fitness. Chronic deficiency of vital energy, internal injuries due to fatigue, and long-term illness will weaken the spleen and stomach, cause spleen yang deficiency and lead to stomach problems.

4. Treat chronic inflammation of the nasal cavity, oral cavity, and eyes promptly to prevent swallowing of bacteria or toxins into the stomach and causing inflammation of the gastric mucosa.

5. Take less drugs that damage the gastric mucosa. For example, aspirin can cause damage to the gastric mucosa. Use with caution and avoid using drugs that are harmful to the gastric mucosa. Long-term abuse of this type of drug can damage the gastric mucosa, causing chronic gastritis and ulcers.

6. Quit smoking and drinking. About 40% of people who smoke 20 cigarettes a day may develop gastric mucosal inflammation. This is caused by the stimulation of nicotine and nicotine in tobacco. The harmful components in tobacco can increase gastric acid secretion and produce harmful irritation to the gastric mucosa. Excessive smoking can cause bile reflux. Excessive drinking or long-term consumption of strong liquor can cause congestion, edema, and even erosion of the gastric mucosa, and significantly increase the incidence of chronic gastritis.

7. Avoid irritating foods such as too sour, too spicy, and raw, cold, and difficult to digest foods. When eating, chew slowly and thoroughly so that the food can be fully mixed with saliva, which facilitates digestion and reduces stomach irritation. The diet should be regular, nutritious, and rich in vitamins A , B , and C. Avoid taking stimulating drinks such as strong tea and strong coffee.

8. Prevent bile reflux. Some people have long-term, large amounts of bile reflux into the stomach due to pyloric sphincter dysfunction or pyloric damage after subtotal gastrectomy, or spasm and deformation after healing or repair of duodenal ulcer, which damages the gastric mucosa and causes inflammation.

9. Prevent Helicobacter pylori infection. Because this bacterium can survive in an acidic environment, the human gastric mucosa is its natural breeding site. Once it enters the stomach, it adheres to the mucus layer and selectively combines with the carbohydrate parts of the mucus layer and epithelial cells through its outer layer's lectin, causing cell swelling and inflammation. About 40%-60% of people in China have Helicobacter pylori in their stomachs. The bacteria are mainly transmitted through oral transmission via water or food. Therefore, paying attention to food hygiene, keeping tableware separate and disinfecting can prevent Helicobacter pylori infection.
