How long does moxibustion last?

Many friends know that moxibustion can treat diseases and maintain health, but they don’t know how long it takes to do a moxibustion session. Generally speaking, a moxibustion session lasts about half an hour. Of course, sometimes it may take a little longer, and for some people it may take shorter time. This needs to be judged based on the patient's own physical condition and tolerance to moxibustion.

It is common to treat one acupuncture point with moxibustion for 5 to 30 minutes. A moxibustion session usually lasts from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Skin flushing is the degree. If it is for health care, you can do moxibustion about 2 times a week, 3-4 times a month, and moxibustion 2-3 acupoints at a time. One point should be moxibustioned for about 15 minutes, and the skin should be flushed, about 45-60 minutes. If you are treating a chronic disease with a certain medical history, you can use moxibustion according to your own constitution. It is generally recommended to use moxibustion gradually, from a few to more acupoints. You can start with 2-3 acupoints and then slowly increase the number. In the first ten days, it is best to do moxibustion every day and gradually extend the time of moxibustion. After 10 days, if you feel the condition has improved, you can apply moxibustion every other day or every 2-3 days, for about 20 minutes on each acupoint, until the skin becomes flushed. Be sure to moxibustion thoroughly.

If you want to treat acute diseases, etc., you can do moxibustion 1-2 times a day, and you should do it vigorously, about 20-30 minutes for each acupoint. However, you should drink more water to avoid getting a sore throat. If you have symptoms of getting a sore throat, such as dry mouth, you can eat foods that reduce heat.

In fact, theoretically speaking, there is no strict limit on the duration of a moxibustion session. The most important thing is to look at the patient's own physical condition. Sometimes, as the moxibustion treatment progresses, the patient's physical condition gradually improves. At this time, 20 minutes to half an hour may be relatively short. In this way, the moxibustion time can be gradually extended according to physical changes.
