Pharmacological effects of nightshade herbal medicine

The Yeguanmen herb, also known as the cut-leaf iron broom, is a traditional Chinese medicinal material that has a good effect of nourishing the liver and kidneys, dispersing blood stasis and reducing swelling. Its medicinal value can be widely used in today's life. It can also effectively fight against some pathogens, effectively inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Pneumococcus, or Streptococcus A, etc., so as to better avoid the occurrence of diseases caused by these pathogens.

Lespedeza, also known as: cut-leaf iron broom, silky Lespedeza, etc., belongs to the genus Lespedeza in the Fabaceae family. An upright small shrub, up to 1 meter high, with alternate, densely packed tripartite leaves, very small leaflets and short petioles. 1 to 4 flowers grow in the leaf axils, the corolla is butterfly-shaped, yellow-white. The pods are small, sessile, and about 3 mm long. The flowering period is from June to September, and the fruiting period is October. The whole herb is used medicinally to nourish the liver and kidneys, benefit the lung yin, disperse blood stasis and reduce swelling.

Pharmacological Action

Antitussive effect: Oral decoction of mice and 0.5 g of the raw drug of keningol isolated from Yeguanmen, 5 mg of 707 (mainly flavonoid compounds) or 10 mg of 607 (mainly phenolic substances, also with small amounts of flavonoids and acidic substances) all had significant antitussive effects (ammonia spray-induced cough method).

Effect on the uterus: The ethanol extract of the root has a selective excitatory effect on various pregnant animals and isolated uteri sensitized with diethylstilbestrol, but has no obvious effect on the isolated uteri of various non-pregnant animals.

In vitro tests on antibacterial effects have shown that the whole herb decoction at a concentration of 6.25-25% or above has an antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Pneumococcus, Streptococcus alpha and Catarrhalis. 707 containing more than 5 mg per milliliter has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus albus, and containing more than 10 mg per milliliter has an inhibitory effect on Streptococcus alpha.

Keningol and 607 had no inhibitory effect on the above-mentioned bacteria.
