1. Healthy diet

Health preservation in accordance with the seasons refers to a health preservation method that conforms to the laws of climate and phenological changes of the four seasons and comprehensively adjusts the mental state, daily life, diet, and exercise. The basic requirements of health care in accordance with the seasons are: to soothe the liver and cool down the body in spring, to clear the heart and replenish qi in summer, to strengthen the spleen and dry dampness in the long summer, to moisten the lungs and warm the body in autumn, and to warm the kidneys and replenish essence in winter. "Eight Notes on Following Life" by Gao Lian of the Ming Dynasty collected the health-preserving theories of all dynasties and set up "Notes on Adjusting the Four Seasons" to discuss health-preserving in accordance with the seasons. After the general discussion of the four seasons, it also discussed the "matters to be concerned about", "matters to be avoided", "methods of self-cultivation", "diagrams of guided sitting exercises" and other aspects of health-preserving in the twelve months, thus standardizing the health-preserving methods for each season and month.

In addition, "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine" also puts forward the view that "a day is divided into four seasons". During the day, in the morning, noon, evening and night, the human body's yang energy is like the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, with the characteristics of growth, prosperity, contraction and storage. Therefore, health preservation must also conform to the laws of the rise and fall of yin and yang during the day and night, arrange daily life, nourish the spirit, exercise the body, adjust diet, etc. Especially in Qigong exercise, more attention should be paid to the influence of time factor. Studies have shown that practicing different exercises, or different stages of the same exercise at specific times, can help the neuroendocrine and immune functions reach their optimal state and is beneficial to the regulation of visceral functions.

2. Adjust your spirit

Mental regulation refers to the use of various psychological adjustment techniques to maintain psychological balance and maintain and enhance mental health. Health experts throughout the ages have attached great importance to spiritual regulation, and regarded it as the fundamental method for health preservation and longevity, and a good medicine for preventing and curing diseases. The Huainanzi says: "When the mind is clear and the will is calm, all joints are at peace, which is the foundation of nurturing the nature; when the skin is plump, the stomach is full, and the desires are satisfied, which is the end of nurturing the nature." In addition to adjusting the mind in the four seasons, the specific methods of adjusting the mind also include correctly understanding and improving oneself, learning to use psychological adjustment, and being determined to cultivate virtue and nurture the nature. Among them, the most commonly used method is psychological adjustment, and the main measures are as follows:

(1) Avoid the generation of negative emotions: Lao Lao Heng Yan points out that "calmness is the first step to maintain health." It believes that the key to regulating the mind and maintaining health is to maintain tranquility; and the key to maintaining tranquility is to control desires, which requires people to control their desires for fame and material things, and achieve a spiritual state of being humble, indifferent to fame and fortune, and detached from the mundane world. "Introduction to Medicine: Theory of Maintenance" says: "If one focuses on reason, human desires will disappear and the mind will be clear and the spirit will be happy. One will be calm without seeking tranquility." If one is overly greedy for fame and material desires, and fails to get what they want, one will experience negative emotions such as depression, disappointment, sadness, anguish, and anger, which will disturb the calm spirit and lead to qi disorder and illness. Only by having fewer desires, a calm mind and a reserved spirit, can the internal organs' qi and blood be harmonized, the qi flow be regulated, the ability to resist disease be strong, and it is beneficial to prolonging life. "Suwen·Yin Yang Ying Xiang Da Lun" said: "Therefore, the sage does nothing, enjoys the ability of being tranquil and calm, follows his desires and is content with the keeping of nothingness. Therefore, his life span is infinite, and ends with heaven and earth. This is how the sage manages his body." "Taishang Laojun Yangsheng Jue" proposes: "Those who are good at preserving their lives must first eliminate the six evils, and then they can extend their lives to a hundred years. Which ones are they? One is to be indifferent to fame and wealth, two is to abstain from sensual pleasures, three is to be frugal with money, four is to reduce the appetite, five is to eliminate flattery, and six is to get rid of jealousy." In essence, they all aim to reduce people's needs in order to reduce the contradiction between people's needs and objective things and avoid the generation of negative emotions. Of course, TCM health care does not exclude following one's emotions and desires to nourish the spirit. The "Lingshu Shichuan" has recognized that: "The people all want to follow their will." Therefore, when possible, we should try our best to meet people's needs for food, clothing, housing, transportation and working conditions to make them feel comfortable and happy. To calm the mind and nourish the spirit, one can also use the method of concentrating the mind and focusing the mind on one point, eliminating distracting thoughts, eliminating worries, keeping the mind clear and keeping the body's physiological functions in the best condition. "Medical Notes Classified Compilation" said: "If you nourish the heart, your spirit will be focused, if your spirit is focused, your qi will gather, and if your qi gathers, your spirit will be complete." If you are worried and uneasy every day and your mind is not at rest, you will easily age.

In addition, changing your cognition and re-understanding and evaluating the relationship between your needs and objective reality is also an important way to avoid negative emotions. "Suwen Shanggu Tianzhen Lun" said: "So they eat delicious food, wear what they like, enjoy their customs, and the high and the low do not envy each other." This has the meaning of rationalization in the psychological defense mechanism, that is, when an individual's motivation and behavior are not accepted by society, or when he fails in a certain work, in order to reduce the tension and anxiety caused by motivation conflict or failure and frustration, and to maintain personal self-esteem, one can excuse his own actions and justify himself. The specific methods are, first, to emphasize that everything you have is good, which is called the "sweet lemon" mentality; second, to think that things you can't get or don't have are bad and not worth paying attention to or fighting for, which is called the "sour grapes" mentality. In short, everything that happens in life is part of life. What is lost will come back, and what belongs to you will never slip away from you. We should learn to say "it's okay" to ourselves, so that our minds can be freed from worries and find peace.

(2) Inhibit the intrusion of external stimuli: First, you can use the method of empathy, that is, through certain methods, shift your attention to things that make you feel confident and happy. Hua Xiuyun said in "Clinical Guide to Medical Cases": "Emotional depression is due to the inability to express hidden feelings...depression depends entirely on the patient's ability to change his emotions and temperament." Emotions can be diverted and temperament can be cultivated with the help of music, singing and dancing, chess, calligraphy and painting, flowers and birds, fishing, sightseeing, and exercise. In this regard, "Lihua Pianwen" emphasizes that: "For those suffering from the seven emotions, reading to relieve boredom and listening to music to relieve sorrow are better than taking medicine." Secondly, you can adopt the method of decomposition, breaking down specific worries one by one, and solving them one by one. Do not link different worries together, link current worries with past worries, and even less link them with imagined future worries, or regard one worry as the cause or result of another worry. In addition, you should not remember, think about, or associate with stimulation and troubles in order to weaken the troubles as much as possible.
