Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the neck is very important to good health and is one of the indispensable parts. The five important meridians of the human body all pass through the back of the neck and shoulders. It can be seen that the health of the neck affects the smooth flow of qi and blood in the meridians. If the meridians are blocked, the functions of the organs they control will be affected accordingly.

1. Neck discomfort can cause shoulder and waist discomfort

Poor posture, neck trauma or cervical degeneration can induce pain in the shoulders, upper arms and shoulder blades. At the same time, lying down to watch TV, lowering your head for a long time, sitting forward for a long time or under too much pressure can cause shoulder discomfort. Because the neck supports the head upwards and connects to the shoulders, upper arms and the entire back downwards, once it is pulled, the surrounding muscles will be affected. Sometimes, it may also cause lower back pain.

2. Neck discomfort can cause headaches

The nerves in the cervical spine are very close to the nerves in the head and five senses, and they influence each other. If shoulder and neck pain is accompanied by pain in the arms and facial features, and painkillers are ineffective, you should suspect that it is a cervicogenic headache and need to undergo a neck X-ray.

3. A good neck can improve balance and prevent the elderly from falling

Chinese medicine experts point out that the neck can also affect the body's sense of balance. There are many neurons in the neck, which is an important channel for various sensory inputs to the brain. Therefore, relaxing the neck can improve the patient's balance problems.

It can be seen that it is not an exaggeration to call the neck "the second brain of the human body". Therefore, people should pay attention to protecting their necks and move their necks more in their daily lives.

4. To maintain your neck, you can often do 3 minutes of neck exercises

1. Stand up straight or sit in a seat, keep your upper body straight, do not bend your back, raise your head and look forward.

2. Then, as if you want to form a double chin, try to hold your jaw in as much as possible, stretching your neck muscles and spine at the same time. Used to restore the curved cervical spine and correct hunchbacks caused by bad sitting posture. Strengthen training and improve results!

3. Stand upright with your upper body, back straight, head pointed forward, shoulders relaxed, then tilt your head to one side, with your neck as the center axis, slowly draw a large circle with your head in a counterclockwise direction. Do this set of movements 5 times. Then change direction and rotate your head clockwise for 5 times. Be careful to keep your body as still as possible, and rely on the rotation of your neck to drive the muscles. This set of movements can relieve neck fatigue, loosen muscles, promote blood and lymphatic circulation, help excrete aging waste, etc.

4. Perform head bending massage in sequence forward, backward, left and right directions. Do 5 sets of each exercise. Stand upright, with your waist straight and shoulders horizontal. Without relaxing your shoulders, slowly lower your head and fully stretch the muscles behind your neck and back. Then slowly lift your head and lean it back as far as possible to fully stretch the muscles in the front of your neck and relieve work fatigue. Keep your shoulders as still as possible.

5. Slowly turn your head left and right to perform the swinging motion. Perform 5 sets of each exercise. Keep your body upright with your back straight. Relax your shoulders while tensing your shoulder blades. Feel your back muscles moving toward the center. While keeping your upper body still, twist your neck and turn your face from front to left, then return to the original position. The neck drives the head to turn to the right, following the same principle. When doing this set of movements, turn your head to the left and right, and feel that your jaw is as close to your shoulders as possible.

Fully exercising the muscles around the neck can relieve tension and promote blood circulation in the shoulders and head. An exercise that can be easily performed while sitting in the office. Performing this set of exercises while bathing can effectively eliminate fatigue and improve the circulation of lymph and blood. If you persist for a long time, you can correct the curved spine, form a good sitting posture, and improve symptoms such as neck and back pain and stiffness.
