How many days does it take to recover from hemorrhoid surgery? What are the precautions after surgery?

Hemorrhoids are one of the common diseases in anorectal medicine. In life, the most fundamental solution for the treatment of hemorrhoids is surgical treatment. How long does it take to recover from hemorrhoid surgery?

How long does it take to recover from hemorrhoid surgery?

Currently, hemorrhoid surgery is the fastest way to treat hemorrhoids, but surgery is dangerous after all, and if you are not careful, it will leave some sequelae. The recovery time after hemorrhoid surgery is about 2 weeks. You can do anal contraction exercises to promote the recovery of anal contraction function. It takes about 3-6 months for scars after anal surgery to soften.

Most people choose hemorrhoid surgery because they cannot bear the pain. After hemorrhoid surgery, you should remember to recover in time. Generally, eating these things after hemorrhoid surgery will be beneficial to surgical recovery. Liquid food can be eaten on the first day after surgery, and normal food can be eaten on the 2nd to 3rd day. In order to maintain smooth bowel movements and nutritional compensation, patients should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, such as bananas, spinach, fish soup and other easily digestible and low-fat foods, but not a full meal.

5 to 7 days after the operation, when the threads on the incision are falling off, the patient should not eat too much fiber-rich food, and should focus on eating refined, fine and soft food. Patients who still have no urge to defecate 3 days after surgery should appropriately increase their intake of foods containing plant or animal fats, such as sesame seeds, broth, etc. After the above diet therapy, they will generally be able to defecate. If it cannot be discharged, you can use a suppository or a small enema.

So usually we won’t choose surgery unless we have no other choice. We can try medication. Hemorrhoid medicines like Inverness are good choices. In addition, patients need to regularize their lives, have regular bowel movements every day, and keep their bowels open; clean the anus frequently and keep it dry; eat a light diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and eat more vegetables and fruits, such as watermelon, bananas, tomatoes, etc., which have a bowel-moisturizing effect. In summer, you should drink more salt water to avoid excessive sweating.

Things to note after hemorrhoid surgery:

1. Patients should not defecate until 24 hours after surgery, but bandages should be used during the operation to prevent postoperative bleeding, so the pressure bandage can generally be removed 12 hours after the operation. This can alleviate the patient's discomfort and other postoperative reactions.

2. Before the first bowel movement after surgery, the patient should take a sitz bath in warm salt water to relax the sphincter and relieve the pain caused by the patient's first bowel movement.

3. It is best to change the dressing once a day after hemorrhoid surgery. Too many dressing changes, such as 2 to 3 times a day, and repeated rubbing of the wound with saline cotton balls each time, can damage the new and tender cells, which in turn prolongs the wound healing time. More haste, less speed. If the dressing is changed too infrequently or not at all after surgery, the wound may form false healing. Although the hemorrhoids are cured, the patient will need another surgery.

4. The first dressing change should be done gently, and the dressing should be inserted to achieve anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, which is beneficial to the wound surface. The gauze should be inserted through the normal skin. It should not be entered through a wound with a wound surface, and should be applied with oil such as Mayinglong Hemorrhoid Ointment first, which can reduce the patient's pain symptoms when changing the dressing.
