Treatment of sequelae of hemiplegia needs to start from two aspects

For people with hemiplegia, it is very easy to leave sequelae on their bodies after the symptoms of hemiplegia appear. At present, the treatment of sequelae of hemiplegia can be started from the following two aspects.

Massage and passive exercises:

For patients who are bedridden in the early stages, their family members will massage their paralyzed limbs to prevent muscle atrophy, and perform passive exercises such as flexion and extension of the knees, elbows, and fingers on large and small joints to avoid joint stiffness. Patients who are able to move a little can sit on a stool with the help of others and do activities such as leg raising, knee extension and standing with support to prevent cardiovascular dysfunction.

Gradually strengthen functional training to achieve self-care:

After being able to walk on their own, lift the legs when walking, take a stride gait, and gradually move over door thresholds, walk on slopes, go up and down stairs, and do other exercises, gradually increasing the distance. Patients with better recovery in the lower limbs can also do short-distance running. The exercises for the upper limbs mainly focus on training the flexibility and coordination of the hands, such as combing hair, dressing, unbuttoning, using an abacus, writing, washing face, etc., as well as participating in activities such as playing table tennis and kicking a ball, and gradually achieving the ability to take care of oneself in daily life. While carrying out functional rehabilitation exercises, reliable physical prevention and treatment should be adhered to, and acupuncture, massage, etc. can also be used in combination. In addition to building up the patient's confidence in recovery, accompanying family members must also have patience and perseverance, and must not act too hastily or become bored and discouraged and give up halfway. As long as they persist, most ischemic stroke patients can achieve ideal results.
