What is polycystic ovary? How to maintain it?

The development, maturation and ovulation of follicles all take place in the ovaries. Once the endocrine system is disturbed, the normal development of follicles in the ovaries will be inhibited, and a mature dominant follicle cannot be selected, making ovulation and conception impossible. So what is polycystic ovary?

What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?

1. Endocrine disorders

Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine and metabolic disorder with two characteristics: one is ovulation disorder or loss, and the other is excessive male hormones in the patient's body. Studies have found that some patients with secondary amenorrhea have polycystic ovary syndrome, and anovulatory infertility is caused by this disease. It can be seen that for young patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, the biggest threat is infertility. Recent studies have shown that the causes of PCOS are related to metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, there are long-term complications and it has received much attention from the medical community in recent years.

2. Genetics

Currently, the cause of PCOS is still unclear, and people speculate that it may be a polygenic genetic disease. This type of patients has a certain familial clustering. Many of the patients' fathers have hirsutism, acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and premature baldness, while their mothers and sisters often have infrequent menstruation and infertility.

3. Infertility

Infertility is often caused by menstrual disorders and anovulation, and is often the main reason for seeking medical treatment.

4. Bilateral ovarian enlargement

In a small number of patients, gynecological examination may reveal that the bilateral ovaries are 1 to 3 times larger than normal and feel firm. In most patients, enlarged ovaries need to be discovered through auxiliary examinations such as B-ultrasound and are not easily detected by clinical examinations.

How to take care of polycystic ovary syndrome

1. Environmental adjustment: It is not advisable to live in a humid environment; in rainy seasons, be careful of the invasion of dampness.

2. Exercise: PCOS patients with phlegm-damp constitution are often obese, heavy and easily fatigued, so they should adhere to long-term physical exercise. Walking, jogging, ball games, swimming, martial arts, Bajin, Wuqinxi, and various dances are all options. The amount of activity should be gradually increased so that the loose skin and flesh can gradually transform into firm and dense muscles. In terms of Qigong, it is advisable to focus on dynamic standing exercises, health-care exercises, and longevity exercises, and strengthen qigong.

3. Relax, build confidence in treatment, and be patient in treatment. Young women with this disease who do not receive treatment have a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes when they reach middle or old age. Untreated, the disease is considered a progressive syndrome that, once present, is lifelong.

4. Diet adjustment for polycystic ovary syndrome: eat less fatty and sweet foods, do not drink too much alcohol, and do not overeat. Eat more vegetables and fruits, especially some foods that have the functions of strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness, and resolving phlegm and expectorant, such as white radish, water chestnut, seaweed, jellyfish, onion, loquat, ginkgo, jujube, lentil, coix seed, red bean, broad bean, cabbage, etc.

5. Restoring ovulation is the key to treatment for women of childbearing age. After menstruation regulation treatment, ovulation promotion treatment is then carried out.
