Biting your tongue while eating may be related to two diseases

Biting the tongue while eating is something that many people may accidentally encounter. Generally speaking, when people bite their tongue while eating, it may be related to the following two diseases.

Lacunar infarction

As we age, it is common to accidentally bite the tongue while eating or talking. However, if the elderly often bite their tongue accidentally, they should be extra careful, because this may be a disease called lacunar infarction.

Biting the tongue is caused by local cerebral infarction, which compresses the brain nerves and makes the tongue unable to move flexibly, and is often bitten by the teeth during chewing. In addition to biting the tongue while eating, other details in life such as slower and longer swallowing, drooling, unconsciously dropping teacups or rice bowls, and inability to whistle are all precursors to cerebral infarction. Generally speaking, if these signals appear, you need to go to the hospital for a CT scan.

Lacunar infarction is a special type of cerebral infarction with a high incidence rate. It often occurs in elderly people with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. The number of such patients accounts for nearly 70% of the total number of cerebral infarction patients. If the elderly find themselves biting their tongues frequently, or are accompanied by dizziness, headaches, unsteady walking, slurred speech, etc., they should seek medical attention immediately.

Tongue cancer strikes

People with malocclusion, sharp lingual teeth due to bruxism, enlarged tongue, or abnormal tongue nerve function caused by stroke will often bite their tongue. Malocclusion is the most common cause of these injuries. Malocclusion not only affects appearance, but also affects health.

Tongue cancer originates from the surface of the mucosa, and more than 90% of it is squamous cell carcinoma, which can cause ulcers, irregular white spots or orange peel-like protrusions. It is related to the patient's eating habits such as chewing betel nuts, smoking, drinking or eating spicy food. However, Ms. Li has a normal diet, does not smoke or drink, and the reason is that her teeth are not straight, causing repeated injuries to the tongue, and long-term stimulation caused cancer. If you often accidentally bite your tongue or mouth, it is best to go to the hospital for examination and correction in time; if the wound in the mouth or tongue does not heal for two weeks, or the wound appears as irregular white spots or orange peel-like protrusions, it is best to seek medical attention in time.
