Folk Herbal Medicine for Lowering Blood Sugar

Folk Herbal Medicine for Lowering Blood Sugar

Traditional Chinese medicine is very profound. Generally speaking, Chinese medicine usually requires a lot of herbs to treat diseases. There are also many herbs for lowering blood sugar, and diabetic patients can also be treated with herbs. Diabetes is particularly harmful to human health. In addition to active treatment, you also need to control your blood sugar at ordinary times to prevent high and low blood sugar from endangering your health.

Folk Herbal Medicine for Lowering Blood Sugar

1. Astragalus

Pharmacological studies have shown that Astragalus has the effects of strengthening myocardial contractility, dilating coronary blood vessels, lowering blood pressure, protecting liver cells, and lowering blood sugar. In clinical practice, Astragalus is often used in combination with yin-nourishing drugs (such as Rehmannia glutinosa, Scrophularia ningpoensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, etc.) to treat diabetes.

2. Lycium bark

Pharmacological studies have shown that the bark of Lycium bark has significant effects in lowering blood pressure and blood sugar. When rabbits were gavaged with a decoction of Radix Rehmanniae, their blood sugar levels first increased for a short time and then decreased permanently.

3. Coptis chinensis

According to clinical reports, berberine can significantly lower blood sugar in the treatment of diabetes, and berberine decoction can lower blood sugar in normal mice and alloxan-induced diabetic mice. Experiments have shown that the blood sugar lowering mechanism of berberine does not affect the secretion and release of insulin, nor does it affect the number and affinity of insulin receptors in hepatocytes. Instead, it produces a blood sugar lowering effect by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and promoting glycolysis.

4. Ginseng

Pharmacological studies have shown that ginseng has a blood sugar-lowering effect on normal dogs and alloxan-induced diabetic dogs, and has a significant blood sugar-lowering effect on alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Ginseng total saponins can significantly inhibit hyperglycemia in alloxan-induced diabetic mice and its effect can be maintained for 1 to 2 weeks after drug withdrawal. Clinical studies have shown that ginseng can not only improve general symptoms such as fatigue, thirst, weakness, etc. in the treatment of diabetes, but also reduce blood sugar and urine sugar. It is suitable for patients with mild and moderate diabetes. It is more effective for those with kidney deficiency and qi and yin deficiency as diagnosed by traditional Chinese medicine. It is not suitable for those with yin deficiency and dryness.

5. Scrophularia

It has the effect of lowering blood pressure and blood sugar. Animal experiments show that Scrophularia ningpoensis fluid extract can lower the blood sugar of normal rabbits.

6. Raw Rehmannia root and Rehmannia root

Pharmacological studies have shown that both have hypoglycemic effects and can inhibit experimental hyperglycemia. Their hypoglycemic component is rehmannia.

Anemarrhena asphodeloides: Anemarrhena asphodeloides water extract can lower blood sugar in experimental animals, and its effect is more obvious on drug-induced blood sugar increase. A prescription of 12 grams each of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Radix Trichosanthis, and Radix Ophiopogonis and 5 grams of Coptis chinensis can be decocted and taken to improve the symptoms of diabetes (such as thirst, polydipsia, etc.).

7. Polygonatum

Its ingredients include mucus, starch and sugar. It has the effects of resisting fatty liver, lowering blood sugar and blood pressure, lowering blood lipids, and preventing atherosclerosis.

8. Morus alba bark, mulberry

A study on the hypoglycemic effects of 50 traditional drugs for treating diabetes showed that mulberry bark and mulberry have significant hypoglycemic effects, especially mulberry bark.
