What causes eyelid edema?

What causes eyelid edema?

Eyes are not only the windows to the soul, but also an important organ that manifests physical diseases. When a person often stays up late and is in unhealthy condition, his eyes will become dull. Some people also find that their eyelids are in a state of long-term edema, which makes the eyes look smaller and dull. For people who often suffer from eyelid edema, it is also very necessary to understand the causes of eyelid edema.

Eyelid edema can be generally divided into two types: physiological and pathological.

Physiological eyelid edema: Physiological edema is mostly caused by poor sleep at night or a pillow that is too low when sleeping, which affects blood return to the face. This type of eyelid edema is more common in healthy people, has no effect on the body, and generally subsides naturally.

Pathological eyelid edema: Pathological eyelid edema is divided into inflammatory eyelid edema and non-inflammatory eyelid edema.

Inflammatory eyelid edema is characterized by eyelid edema as well as local redness, heat, pain and other symptoms. It is caused by acute eyelid inflammation, eyelid trauma, or periocular inflammation.

Most non-inflammatory eyelid edema does not have symptoms such as local redness, heat, and swelling. Common causes are allergic diseases or allergies to eye drops, heart disease, hypothyroidism, acute and chronic nephritis, and idiopathic neurovascular eyelid edema.
