How to adjust the sleeping posture of children with cerebral palsy

How to adjust the sleeping posture of children with cerebral palsy

When caring for children with cerebral palsy, parents also need to understand and master their sleeping positions. So, how should the sleeping position of children with cerebral palsy be adjusted?

1. Young children whose bodies and limbs are mainly stretched

The supine position can be used, but the child must be placed in a special suspended bed. The concave shape in the middle of the suspension bed can improve the overextension of their torso and limbs. At the same time, it also limits the child's head from rotating to the side and back, keeping the head in the midline position. To prevent children from having narrow vision and strabismus, some toys can be hung above the suspension bed to amuse the child. This will keep the child's head in the middle position and his hands on the chest, which will help the child recover his hand function.

2. Children with spasticity

The best sleeping position is side-lying. This not only helps to improve the tension of spastic muscles, but also helps to achieve symmetry in movements. Children who adopt the side-lying position can put their hands in front of their bodies more easily, and some toys with sounds or bright colors can be placed in front of the children so that they can see and play with these toys with their hands and are often stimulated by sounds and colors. Children with athetosis should move their hands frequently so that the tension disappears during sleep, which can help the children move as much as possible in bed.

3. Children with severe flexion spasm

Put the child in prone position to sleep, place a low pillow on his chest, and stretch his arms forward. When the child's head can be lifted forward or turned, remove the pillow and let him sleep in prone position.
