You must know the latest classification of blood tumors!

The WHO classification of hematologic tumors mainly determines the tumor type based on the cell line of origin, which includes four types: myeloid tumors, lymphoid tumors, histiocytic tumors, and mast cell tumors.

Myeloid Tumors

In the FAB classification, myeloid neoplasms include three categories: acute myeloid leukemias (AMLS), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs), and myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs). The new WHO classification recommends that myeloid neoplasms be divided into four categories: myeloproliferative disorders (MPDs), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs), myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disorders (MD/MPDs), and acute myeloid leukemia (AMLS). Various types of myeloid tumors are further classified according to cell morphology, immunophenotype, genetic characteristics and clinical characteristics.

Lymphoid tumors

The European and American lymphoma classification (REAL classification), revised in 1994, classifies the disease based on morphology, immunophenotype, genetic characteristics and clinical features. On this basis, combined with the experience of using the REAL classification over the past few years, WHO made slight modifications and developed a new WHO classification of lymphoid tumors. The revisions include some changes in naming, classification of variants and subgroups, determination of presumptive types, etc. The classification mainly divides lymphoid tumors into: T/NK cell tumors, B cell tumors and Hodgkin's disease.
