What causes liver pain?

Liver pain is relatively common in clinical practice, but many people do not know what causes liver pain. When liver pain occurs, it is not ruled out that it is related to some liver diseases. The intrahepatic bile duct can also cause pain when stimulated, and the patient may feel discomfort in the right upper abdomen.

1. Hepatitis

Inflammation of the liver can cause the liver to swell, irritating or pulling the nerves outside the liver, causing pain. During the liver recovery period, the liver's recovery will also involve nerves and cause pain.

2. Cirrhosis of the liver.

Due to damage to liver cells, excessive proliferation of fibrous tissue mainly composed of collagen in the liver causes the liver to deform and harden, causing liver pain.

3. Tiredness.

The liver is an organ that provides energy. Once it is overworked, the liver will become very tired and uncomfortable.

4. Psychological barriers to liver disease.

Many patients with liver disease become very suspicious and sensitive, and feel that any slight discomfort is caused by the disease. Patients with depression, in particular, are more likely to experience liver discomfort.

5. Liver pain due to running

This is normal if you haven't exercised for a long time! Vigorous exercise increases the load on internal organs. A large amount of blood flows in and out of the internal organs, causing them to be squeezed and causing internal pain. The liver itself is where blood is stored, so a large amount of blood flows out during exercise. When liver pain occurs, slowly reduce the exercise load and wait until it is slightly relieved before exercising again.

6. Liver cancer

In patients with liver cancer, rapid tumor growth increases the tension of the liver capsule, or liver cancer infiltrates the liver capsule, which is often the first symptom of mid-to-late stage liver cancer. Discomfort in the right upper abdomen may occur before liver pain. The pain is mostly located in the "right heart" or right hypochondrium, and is mostly intermittent or continuous dull pain or stabbing pain. The pain in the liver area is sometimes mild and sometimes severe, and occasionally it can ease on its own or even disappear within a period of time. Liver pain caused by liver cancer is more common at night.
