What are the symptoms of otitis media?

Symptoms such as hearing loss, tinnitus, ear pain, and stuffy ears are all symptoms of otitis media, so if this happens, you must be vigilant because it may mean that you have otitis media.

Otitis media is an inflammation of the lining of the middle ear and is a common cause of ear pain in children. Otitis media, also known as "ear base". The most common symptoms are a feeling of stuffiness or blockage in the ears, hearing loss and tinnitus.

It often occurs after a cold or occurs unconsciously. If acute otitis media is not treated promptly, it is likely to turn into chronic otitis media. In addition to feeling stuffy and tinnitus in the ears, patients also have pus discharge from the ears. If the condition is not cured for a long time, intracranial complications may occur, endangering their life.

1. Hearing loss : After otitis media, the eardrum may be perforated and the ossicular chain may be damaged. This will reduce the effective vibration surface of the sound source, cause loss of sound conduction, and cause hearing loss. When the head tilts forward or toward the healthy side, hearing may temporarily improve because the effusion leaves the cochlear conduction. When the effusion is viscous, hearing may not change with changes in head position. Children often have a slow response to sounds and difficulty concentrating.

2. Tinnitus: It is mostly low-pitched and intermittent, such as "crackling", buzzing and the sound of running water. When the head moves or when yawning or blowing the nose, a sound of air passing through water may be heard in the ears.

3. Earache: Acute cases may cause dull earache, which is often the first symptom of the patient. It may be continuous or cramping. In chronic cases, ear pain is not obvious. This disease is often associated with a feeling of blockage or stuffiness in the ear, which can be temporarily relieved by pressing the tragus.

4. Stuffy ears: After the middle ear is inflamed, the external auditory canal often becomes narrower and the Eustachian tube is diseased. All of this causes an imbalance in the air pressure inside and outside the middle ear, resulting in a stuffy feeling in the ears.
