What causes anal wetness?

Anal wetness is usually caused by disease. For example, if the anal sphincter is relaxed, or if anal sphincter incontinence occurs due to surgery, anal wetness will often occur. Anal wetness is usually accompanied by anal itching.

1. What is the reason for anal wetness?

1. Under normal circumstances, the anus may have a small amount of secretions, which are secreted by the apocrine sweat glands in the anal skin. In addition, anal sphincter relaxation and anal sphincter incontinence caused by surgery or other reasons can cause poor anal closure, resulting in overflow of rectal secretions and causing anal moisture. If the secretion suddenly increases, it probably indicates that some disease has occurred.

2. When the anus is wet, it is accompanied by itching, mainly with exudation, and various skin lesions, such as papules, erythema, erosion, scabs, desquamation, lichenification and other changes, which are caused by perianal eczema or dermatitis. Sometimes, increased perianal secretions are due to irritation caused by pus contamination after the perianal abscess ruptures. From a treatment perspective, the anal fistula must be treated first before the dermatitis can be cured.

3. In addition, rectal prolapse, late-stage internal hemorrhoids, and acute incarcerated hemorrhoids may cause anal moisture when the rectal mucosa and hemorrhoidal mucosa are turned out of the anus, bringing rectal secretions out of the anus. There are also patients with advanced rectal cancer who will have foul-smelling purulent and bloody secretions flowing out of the anus. The cancer may also cause anal incontinence and perianal fistulas, which can cause anal moisture. However, the moisture caused by this reason is usually accompanied by prolapse, obvious pain, and lumps around the anus.

2. It is important to develop a habit to prevent anal moisture

1. Bowel habits

You should have bowel movements once or twice a day, preferably about 20 minutes after breakfast. Do not read, read newspapers, talk or play with your phone when defecating. You should concentrate and each bowel movement should be controlled within 5 to 10 minutes. Get up as soon as you have finished defecating. Do not sit on the toilet empty-handed or squat on the toilet for a long time.

⒉ Cleaning habits

Always keep your anus clean and clean it as much as possible after defecation to avoid any fecal residue. In addition, you can also use warm water to clean the anus or take a sitz bath after defecation, washing for about 5 to 10 minutes at a time. Do not use strong alkaline soaps when cleaning your anus.
