Rehabilitation steps for spinal cord injury

Rehabilitation steps for spinal cord injury

Spinal cord injury is a common phenomenon in life. If you want to reduce and lower the harm it causes, you can use physical therapy or improve it through some daily life activities. At the same time, patients should also pay attention to psychological adjustment.

(1) Physical therapy

The main focus is to improve the range of motion of all joints in the body and strengthen the remaining muscle strength, as well as balance and coordination movements, and position exchange and transfer movements (for example: moving from lying to sitting position, turning over, from bed to wheelchair, from wheelchair to toilet, etc.).

(2) Occupational therapy

It mainly involves daily living movements (such as basic skills in clothing, food, housing and transportation), occupational labor movements, and craft labor movements (such as weaving, etc.), so that patients can adapt to the needs of personal life, family life, social life and labor after discharge. In addition, the occupational health department also provides patients with simple auxiliary tools to facilitate the smooth completion of daily activities at home.

(3) Psychological treatment

Because the psychological stages of spinal cord injury patients are different, their psychological treatments are also different, so changes need to be made in the formulation of psychological treatment plans.

(4) Rehabilitation Engineering

Necessary braces can be customized to practice standing and walking. In addition, special tools such as walkers can be equipped to compensate for functional deficiencies.

(5) Clinical rehabilitation

Nursing and medication can be used to prevent the occurrence of various complications. Some therapeutic clinical treatments can also be performed to alleviate symptoms and promote functional recovery.

(6) Cultural and sports rehabilitation

Use entertainment and sports to enable patients to undergo comprehensive whole-body training and wheelchair usage training (such as endurance and skill training), and to adapt to social activities.
