Treatment of rickets, expert recommended treatment

Rickets is a disease that is more common in children, and most of the time it is caused by a lack of vitamin D. The treatments for this disease can be mainly divided into general treatment, calcium treatment, vitamin D treatment, artificial ultraviolet therapy, etc.

1. General treatment.

Increase outdoor activities and get sunlight exposure every day. If there is a calcium deficiency in the diet, children can be supplemented with calcium lactate or calcium glucose, but the daily amount should not exceed 1 gram. If a child is deficient in both calcium and phosphorus, he or she can take calcium phosphate and vitamin D together, and eat more vegetables, fruits, egg yolks and other foods.

2. Calcium treatment.

While supplementing your child with vitamin D, you can also give him or her an appropriate amount of calcium supplements or bone powder. Such as oral calcium gluconate, 1-3 grams per day; or elemental calcium 500-600 mg per day. Calcium supplements should be taken long-term, generally for several months or years.

3. Vitamin D treatment.

Take oral vitamin D concentrate and cod liver oil for one month, then switch to preventive doses. In summer, the amount of oral cod liver oil can be reduced, but it should not be stopped completely. The dosage should be increased or decreased appropriately depending on the region and condition.

Note: When using large amounts of vitamin D, care must be taken to prevent poisoning and it should be used under the guidance of a doctor.

4. Artificial ultraviolet therapy.

Natural sunlight is the most economical source of vitamin D, but due to seasonal climate restrictions, people cannot enjoy sunbathing. Therefore, if necessary, artificial ultraviolet light therapy can also be used, such as mercury quartz lamp, 3 times a week, each time for 5 to 20 minutes. Each course of treatment lasts 4 to 6 weeks. Note: if any adverse skin reaction occurs, use should be discontinued.
