What to pay attention to after cataract surgery

Cataract problems require correct treatment, such as common surgical treatment, but patients should pay attention to proper care after the operation. They should lie down and rest on the day after the operation and try to get up as little as possible to avoid increased intraocular pressure.

1. Care after cataract surgery: Please note that on the day after the operation , both eyes should be covered to reduce the movement of the eyeballs and allow the eyes to get enough rest. Except for eating and going to the toilet, you generally need to stay in bed and rest. Special attention should be paid to avoid bumping the operated eye to avoid complications such as anterior chamber hemorrhage and increased intraocular pressure.

2. Corneal sutures are usually removed 5 days after surgery. After removal, antibiotic drops should be given locally to the eyes. Erythromycin or chloramphenicol eye ointment can be applied before going to bed at night to prevent infection. If you are older, you should pay attention to hygiene when applying eye drops and wash your hands thoroughly. It is best to ask a family member to help you with the eye drops.

3. In addition, patients should maintain a cheerful mood , treat various stimuli in daily life correctly, ensure sleep, prevent colds and coughs, and take antitussive drugs when coughing severely to avoid affecting the normal healing of the wound.

4. Three months after the operation, you can go to the ophthalmology clinic to get glasses. For example, patients with artificial lens implants and poor refractive accommodation can get glasses to improve their vision. Since the operated eye has no accommodation ability after cataract surgery, patients will have some difficulty seeing both far and near in the initial stage. They should use their eyes appropriately to avoid fatigue.

5. A small number of patients have good vision in the healthy eye before the operation , but disuse strabismus occurs in the affected eye. These people may have diplopia after the operation, which will be relieved or disappear after a period of recovery. For most patients, vision recovery takes about 1 week. In the early postoperative period, patients may experience uneven vision in both eyes, double vision, etc. These symptoms will ease or disappear as the operated eye recovers.

6. Patients must remember not to rub their eyes after the operation. Dirty water should not be splashed into the eyes when taking a bath, washing hair, or washing face within half a month after the operation. Limit strenuous activities within half a month after surgery.

7. Long-term precautions: After an artificial lens is implanted in the patient's eye, the patient needs to go to the hospital for follow-up visits regularly and avoid hitting or squeezing the operated eye. If vision loss occurs, the patient needs to see a doctor in time, find out the cause, and receive symptomatic treatment.
