The symptoms of facial neuritis are these four common ones

Facial neuritis is a common facial disease that has a great impact on people's lives. The main symptoms of this disease include blinking movements, eyelid tremor, eyelash sign and oblique oval mouth sign. When these symptoms appear, you must be vigilant, as this may mean that you have facial neuritis.

Symptom 1: Blinking Movements

Careful observation of the patient's blinking revealed bilateral asymmetry of the blinking movements, a phenomenon of considerable significance. If the patient is asked to blink, the blinking movement will be slow and incomplete on the mildly paralyzed side.

Symptom 2: Eyelid tremor

The patient closes both eyes forcefully, and the examiner pulls the upper eyelids open with force. A slight muscle contracture tremor is felt on one side of the upper eyelid, but not on the other side. The presence of this symptom of facial paralysis indicates mild facial nerve paralysis, which is more common in peripheral facial nerve paralysis.

Symptom 3: Eyelash sign

Ask the patient to close his eyes forcefully. When a normal person closes his eyes forcefully, his eyelashes are mostly buried between the upper and lower eyelids. When the facial nerve is paralyzed, the eyelashes are exposed, especially in the case of mild paralysis. If you close your eyes tightly, the asymmetry of the eyelashes is not obvious at first, but after a short period of time, the eyelashes on the mildly paralyzed side will slowly become visible. This is called a positive eyelash sign. This is one of the symptoms of facial paralysis.

Symptom 4: Oblique oval mouth sign

Ask the patient to open his mouth wide. When there is mild facial nerve paralysis, the corner of the mouth on the affected side will droop and form an oblique oval shape. The difference between the oblique oval mouth caused by trigeminal nerve motor branch paralysis and the oval mouth caused by trigeminal nerve motor branch paralysis is that there is no mandibular deviation. This sign is not obvious in central facial nerve paralysis. This is also a symptom of facial paralysis.
