There are two main types of complications after hemifacial spasm surgery:

We can treat hemifacial spasm through surgical treatment, but surgical treatment may leave a series of sequelae, such as hearing loss, permanent facial paralysis, etc., so the patient must do a good job of postoperative care after the operation.

1. Microvascular decompression: All blood vessels that compress, adhere to and contact the facial nerve are separated, displaced and properly fixed. This operation has great risks and can easily cause damage to the auditory nerve and even cause hearing loss to the patient.

2. Partial facial nerve trunk section: For patients with severe hemifacial spasm, part of the facial nerve can be cut near the stylomastoid foramen under local anesthesia. This method is effective, but it can easily cause serious permanent facial paralysis sequelae.

Postoperative Care

1. Patients with hemifacial spasm should pay attention to keeping the head and face warm, maintain emotional stability, avoid various mental stimulations, avoid excessive fatigue, ensure adequate sleep time; do not wash your face with cold water.

3. Patients with hemifacial spasm should avoid mental stimulation and maintain a happy spirit; their daily life should be regular, and the indoor environment should be quiet, clean and have fresh air. At the same time, the bedroom is protected from wind and cold. Do proper exercise to improve your physical fitness.

4. Patients with hemifacial spasm should have a regular diet, avoid fried foods, irritating foods, overly sour or sweet foods, and hot foods. The diet should be nutritious, and they should eat more foods rich in vitamins and foods that have the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying. They should eat more fresh vegetables, beans, and fruits, eat less fat and more lean meat, and light food is preferred.

5. People with hemifacial spasm need to take good care of their eyes. Since the eyelids do not close completely or cannot close, the blinking action and corneal reflex disappear, and the cornea is exposed for a long time, it is easy to cause intraocular infection and damage the cornea. Therefore, reduce eye movements. You should wear an eye mask or tinted glasses when sleeping or going out, and use antibiotic eye drops and eye ointment to protect the cornea and prevent eye infections.
