What diseases can myocardial ischemia cause?

The symptom of myocardial ischemia actually occurs in many elderly people. We should pay attention to this symptom because, first, it is a symptom that threatens heart health, and second, it can cause symptoms of other heart diseases, so it cannot be ignored.

1. Asymptomatic myocardial infarction . SMI patients are prone to asymptomatic myocardial infarction, and about 20% to 25% of patients with myocardial infarction are asymptomatic. The onset of the disease often occurs in the form of complications such as arrhythmia, heart failure, cardiogenic shock, etc., and the mortality rate is significantly higher than that of patients with painful myocardial infarction.

2. Arrhythmia and cardiovascular accidents. The occurrence of arrhythmia is closely related to the onset of myocardial ischemia and is an important influencing factor of fatal arrhythmia. Meissner et al. reported that 450,000 people die suddenly in the United States each year, of which 20% to 50% die from bradyarrhythmias, often accompanied by asymptomatic myocardial ischemia before or at the same time.

3. Ischemic cardiomyopathy. Slow and persistent myocardial ischemia can cause extensive diffuse myocardial fibrosis and form congestive ischemic cardiomyopathy. So, what consequences will emerge?

Myocardial ischemia may cause angina pectoris and arrhythmias. In severe cases, myocardial infarction may occur, causing large-area myocardial necrosis and endangering life. Clearly diagnosed myocardial ischemia is a type of coronary heart disease. The main and most common cause of myocardial ischemia is coronary artery stenosis.

If the stenosis of the blood vessels is severe, that is, the stenosis is >75%, drug treatment alone is not enough. After all, drugs can only delay the process of blood vessels gradually narrowing. The stenosis of the arteries cannot disappear automatically through drugs. Interventional treatment and bypass treatment should be considered to restore the blood supply to the ischemic myocardium, thereby relieving the symptoms of angina pectoris and improving heart function.

Myocardial ischemia is also likely to lead to insufficient blood supply, which in turn causes pain. In severe cases, poor heart function affects blood supply to organs throughout the body and may also cause sudden death. Therefore, myocardial ischemia can have very serious consequences and must be paid attention to at all times.
