What to do if the wound is festering

What to do if the wound is festering

Skin damage is also common in life. If the wound is not treated in time or is treated improperly, it will easily lead to signs of suppuration in the wound, which is very detrimental to wound healing and may even cause wound infection in severe cases. When the wound is festering, it is necessary to clean the wound in time and disinfect it with hydrogen peroxide or iodine.

What to do if the wound becomes festering

If the wound is serious and is not treated in time, suppuration may occur. In some cases, the wound is treated but no attention is paid, resulting in suppuration of the wound. What should be done at this time?

1. If there is an open wound on the skin, it needs to be rinsed with running water. If there is dirt in the wound, it needs to be cleaned with soapy water and then thoroughly cleaned with running water. If conditions permit, you can use normal saline or homemade low-concentration saline for flushing.

2. After cleaning the wound, repeatedly apply hydrogen peroxide or iodine to the skin around the wound for disinfection, and then apply some antibacterial drugs for anti-inflammatory treatment. If you have a fever, you can take antibiotics orally.

3. Finally, bandage the wound with sterile gauze. If the wound is small, just use a Band-Aid. If the wound is severely infected and has a lot of pus, it needs to be cleaned and dressed frequently, and the steps need to be repeated many times. The specific number of times a day depends on the condition of the wound.

4. If the wound is severely pus-filled or some parts cannot be treated, medical treatment should be sought promptly. If necessary, the abscess needs to be incised and repeatedly flushed. Avoid more serious conditions such as meningitis, bacteremia, etc.

Why do wounds fester?

If the wound is not treated in time or handled improperly, it will cause the wound to fester. So what exactly causes the wound to fester? Let's take a closer look.

1. When our body is hurt, bacteria will take advantage of the situation and invade the human body. They will multiply in the human body and release a large amount of toxins. At this time, the body will mobilize white blood cells to fight the bacteria.

2. The neutrophils in the blood will also undergo degenerative movements. It penetrates the blood vessel walls, reaches the wound, and then engulfs the invading bacteria and breaks them down. When white blood cells kill bacteria, they also die.

3. At this time, the white blood cells will form a solution together with some dissolved tissues. This is the common wound suppuration situation we see. If these pus accumulate in the wound, it will affect the healing of the wound, and some patients will experience long-term non-healing of the wound.

4. These are the specific circumstances of wound suppuration. After understanding why the wound festeres, you will know how to deal with the festering phenomenon and take measures in special circumstances.
