Glutamyl transpeptidase is high, there are these reasons

Glutamate transpeptidase is most widely distributed in the kidneys, followed by the pancreas and liver. Elevated glutamyl transpeptidase has physiological and pathological reasons. The most common phenomenon is that glutamyl transpeptidase levels will appear after drinking. We should also be alert to the occurrence of hepatitis.

1. Normal physiological reasons

1. The glutamyl transpeptidase level is high due to alcoholism, and the level is about 20% to 400% higher in chronic alcohol poisoning.

2. The overload of the human body caused by work pressure and life pressure leads to different degrees of high blood pressure in patients of different age groups.

2. Pathological causes

1. When suffering from acute viral hepatitis, the liver cells adjacent to the necrotic area synthesize hyperactive enzymes, which causes an increase in serum glutamyl transpeptidase. This factor is also the most common and the one that cannot be ignored.

2. In chronic active hepatitis, glutamyl transpeptidase is often 1-2 times higher than normal. If it remains elevated for a long time, there may be a tendency towards liver necrosis.

3. When the intrahepatic or extrahepatic bile duct is obstructed, the excretion of glutamyl transpeptidase is blocked and refluxes into the blood with bile, resulting in elevated glutamyl transpeptidase levels.

4. Glutamyl transpeptidase levels are almost always elevated in patients with alcoholic hepatitis and alcoholic cirrhosis, which is an important feature of alcoholic liver disease.

5. In patients with primary or metastatic liver cancer, glutamyl transpeptidase levels are mostly moderately or highly increased, which can be several times or even dozens of times greater than normal. However, elevated glutamyl transpeptidase levels are not always a precursor to liver cancer, and other examinations need to be combined to comprehensively assess the condition.

6. In the early stages of primary or secondary biliary cirrhosis, elevated glutamyl transpeptidase may also occur.

7. Patients with fatty liver may also experience elevated glutamyl transpeptidase, but in general, in cases of nutritional fatty liver, the serum glutamyl transpeptidase activity is usually no more than twice the normal value.
