Why does it hurt when you press on the middle of your chest?

If you feel pain when pressing the middle of the chest, if you want to solve it effectively, we must first pay attention to analyzing the causes. Common ones include gallbladder inflammation, or some psychological anxiety problems, and patients with coronary heart disease may also cause this pain symptom.

1. Chest wall pain

① The pain is concentrated in one point and the patient can point it out clearly.

② The pain does not last long, usually only one or two seconds each time, and there is a chance of recurrence.

③ When taking a deep breath or coughing, you feel a sharp pain in your chest.

④ The pain may be more severe than chest pain caused by other diseases, but most cases improve within a few days to two or three weeks.

Causes of chest wall pain

① The patient sprains the cartilage between the ribs and becomes inflamed, which is called costochondritis, one of the more common chest wall pain diseases.

② Influenza itself can cause bone pain all over the body, and inflammation caused by viruses such as influenza can also cause chest wall pain.

③The less common one is the fracture of ribs.

2. Gallbladder inflammation

①Pain when eating too much.

② The feeling is concentrated between the lower chest and the stomach, with a "top" or "bloating" feeling.

Causes of gallbladder inflammation: Gallstones forming in the gallbladder causing inflammation.

3. Anxiety

① The patient feels that the pain lasts for hours, days, years, or even more than ten years.

②Pain may occur anywhere in the chest, and patients usually feel "cloudy" or "stuffy".

③ When the patient is still, such as sitting, lying down or not working, he or she begins to feel chest discomfort, but not when working or exercising.

④ As soon as the patient sits down to see the doctor, he can count out many symptoms: dizziness, sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, fear of heat, fear of cold, numbness of hands, feet or lips, and he really wants the doctor to cure his illness quickly. Cause of anxiety chest pain: too much tension.

Anxiety chest pain treatment

Focus on addressing the mental state and explain in detail that the patient's chest pain is not heart-related. We also need to talk to them patiently and guide them on how to cope with stress easily. In serious cases, you may need help from a psychiatrist or psychologist.

4. Angina pectoris due to coronary heart disease

① The symptoms are opposite to those of chest pain caused by anxiety, that is, the pain only occurs when there is a lot of physical activity such as walking, exercising, chasing a bus, climbing stairs, etc. When you stop, the pain stops.

②The pain lasts for five to ten minutes.

③ There is a feeling of pressure in the chest, especially in the upper chest, or a feeling of being "pressed" by the object.

④If the pain lasts for fifteen to thirty minutes and you are sweating, it may be a myocardial infarction and you must go to the emergency room immediately.

Cause of angina pectoris: embolism of the coronary arteries that supply nutrients to the heart.
