How to treat varicocele

Many people have never heard of varicocele, or even don’t know about it. It is an abnormal dilation of the veins within the spermatic cord. Varicocele is very harmful to men and may lead to infertility. Many people want to know how to treat varicocele. Generally, Western medicine can be chosen for treatment.

1. Varicocele Western medicine treatment:

Patients with varicocele who only experience mild discomfort can take medication to control it or use scrotal support; if the pain is severe or there are concerns about infertility, high ligation surgery should be performed. During the operation, the patient must first undergo local or half-body anesthesia, and then make an incision of about 2 to 3 centimeters above the groin, and ligate the swollen veins. The process is simple and safe. If there is bilateral varicocele or the patient has undergone previous surgery, laparoscopic surgery to ligate the varicocele may be considered. After the operation, the varicose plexus gradually disappears, and the sperm motility of most patients is expected to increase, and the quality of semen can also be improved. Mild varicocele without symptoms does not require treatment.

2. Non-surgical treatment: Patients with mild varicocele or neurasthenia can support the scrotum, apply cold compress or take "Varicocele Granule No. 1".

3. Surgical treatment: For patients with more severe varicocele, sperm count below 20 million for three consecutive times, or testicular atrophy; and for patients whose varicose veins disappear when lying down, high ligation of the internal varicocele can be performed. For patients with more severe varicocele, sperm count below 20 million for three consecutive times, or testicular atrophy; and for patients whose varicose veins disappear when lying down, high ligation of the internal varicocele can be performed.

There are two main surgical approaches: retroperitoneal through the iliac fossa and through the inguinal tube. There is no need for a shunt. The main reasons for surgical failure are missed venous branches and damage to the internal spermatic artery.
