What are the symptoms of congenital scoliosis?

Congenital scoliosis is also a type of scoliosis. Congenital scoliosis is generally caused by congenital vertebral abnormalities, and the symptoms of congenital scoliosis are also obvious. The visual symptoms mainly include the patient's own body shape abnormality, which is obviously asymmetric.

First, for patients with congenital scoliosis, although the hemivertebra is very small, even only one-fourth the size of a normal vertebra, it can cause extremely serious scoliosis and kyphosis, which must be taken seriously and surgical treatment must be carried out as soon as possible;

Second, patients with congenital scoliosis often have a half vertebra in the middle of the thoracic spine, with a left and right compensatory arc, and a symmetrical half vertebra, causing a left and right scoliosis, which is also one of the symptoms of congenital scoliosis.

Third, in patients with congenital scoliosis, the vertebrae on both sides develop asymmetrically, with one side larger than the other, forming a wedge-shaped vertebra, which is called a wedge-shaped vertebra. There is a half vertebra on each side, which is called a butterfly vertebra. The wedge-shaped vertebra or the half vertebra on both sides are of different sizes.

Fourth, for patients with congenital scoliosis, a complete hemivertebra, in addition to half a vertebra, also has epiphyses above and below, as well as separate lamina and pedicles. Some hemivertebrae lack epiphyses above or below, and are fused with the adjacent vertebrae. The presence or absence of an epiphyseal plate and the quality of its development have a great relationship with the degree of scoliosis development. The better the epiphyseal plate develops, the more serious the deformity will be.

Fifth, the location of the hemivertebra in the patient is different, and the deformity caused is often different. For example, the upper thoracic hemivertebra often causes the child's shoulders to tilt at different heights, the thoracolumbar hemivertebra often causes severe scoliosis, and the lumbar hemivertebra, in addition to the scoliosis deformity of the spine, can also cause severe trunk tilt;

Sixth, in the same child with congenital scoliosis, there may be poor formation of the convex vertebrae, such as hemivertebrae, incomplete segmentation, such as bone bridges on the concave side, and even fusion of ribs, lacking multiple deformities. This is a mixed type.

Seventh, congenital scoliosis is caused by incomplete vertebral segmentation, which is the fusion of two or more vertebrae together. The fusion close to one side of the vertebra (called a bone bridge) has growth and development disorders, while the other side continues to develop, thus causing scoliosis. Lordosis may occur when the bone bridge is located behind or on both sides of the vertebral body.
