What to do if lumbar spinal stenosis compresses the nerves

Lumbar spinal stenosis is relatively common in clinical practice, and this symptom usually also causes nerve compression. As for what to do when lumbar spinal stenosis compresses the nerves, since it can cause pain, drug treatment can also be an option. Painkillers are usually an option.

1. In this case, non-steroidal analgesics such as indomethacin, ibuprofen, etc., as well as muscle relaxants such as fenalol, eperisone hydrochloride, etc. can be used. In severe cases, steroid drugs such as dexamethasone can be injected intravenously, supplemented with dehydrating agents such as sodium aescinate for injection, mannitol, etc. This disease usually does not cause paraplegia, but it recurs during treatment. Therefore, do not be afraid, pessimistic, or impatient during treatment.

2. Daily precautions: Maintain good living habits, prevent the waist and legs from getting cold, and prevent excessive waist activity; avoid sitting for long periods of time, and do not maintain the same posture for too long; do not bend over when lifting heavy objects, but squat to get the heavy objects, and then stand up slowly. Strengthen waist and back muscle function exercises at ordinary times.

3. Drug treatment: mainly refers to the application of traditional Chinese medicine for treatment. Oral or external use of Chinese medicine can improve the microcirculation of the lesion site, remove the pain-causing factors that cause spasms, promote the elimination of inflammatory edema "swelling" caused by compression and stimulation of nerves and blood vessels due to disc herniation, calcification of the posterior longitudinal ligament, hypertrophy of the yellow ligament, vertebral hyperplasia, etc., promote the digestion and absorption of protrusions such as the intervertebral disc, and relatively expand the narrow spinal canal, thereby achieving significant therapeutic effects.

4. It is best to have conservative treatment and not undergo surgery. The risks of surgery are too high. If it is not done well, it may lead to paralysis of the lower limbs. The symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis compressing the nerves are leg pain or numbness. It compresses the sciatic nerve or cauda equina, causing leg pain. The main reason is excessive fatigue of the waist muscles and ligaments caused by long-term fatigue or wind, which is lumbar muscle strain.
