What is lymphangioma?

Lymphangioma is a common lymphatic tumor in daily life. Usually, there is no color change on the surface, but it will gradually increase in size with age. It is very harmful to human health. Therefore, we must treat it in time after discovering this disease. So what exactly is lymphangioma?

1. What is lymphangioma

Lymphangioma is a congenital benign tumor composed of dilated lymphatic vessels and connective tissue with endothelial cell proliferation, containing lymph fluid, lymphocytes or blood. According to the different sizes of the lymphatic cavities of the constituent tissues, it can be basically divided into capillary lymphangioma, cavernous lymphangioma and cystic lymphangioma.

2. The harm of lymphangioma

1. Prone to infection; after infection, it may adhere to the surrounding tissues, making the boundary between the tumor and the thickened skin on the surface unclear, increasing the difficulty of treatment.

2. Damage to appearance: Lymphangioma located on the cheek can seriously damage the appearance of children. For example, if it grows on the lips, it can cause macrolipia, and if it grows on the tongue, it can cause macroglossia, which affects speaking and eating.

3. Lymphangioma in soft tissue usually has unclear boundaries. There are often hard lumps of connective tissue in lymphangioma, which feel like lymph nodes. The surface of the tumor is covered with thickened skin, and patches of dilated capillaries can sometimes be seen on its surface.

4. Disability: Lymphangioma located in the limbs may cause limb deformity, lameness or even disability.

5. Cause digestive tract diseases: Lymphangioma in the cheek sometimes invades the oral cavity, tongue, and pharynx, causing difficulty in eating and speaking, and even respiratory distress. When eating is difficult, food may be accidentally inhaled into the respiratory tract, causing pneumonia or suffocation.
